Overtight Prop Nut - OS 46AX

I was finishing up the engine install on my new Ultra Stick 40 yesterday and tightening up the prop when I heard a pop. I thought it was possibly just the front bearing seating.
Went outside and cranked the engine up which died after a few seconds and threw the prop.

I removed the glow plug and tried to twist the shaft with my fingers and found the engine to be grinding (internally) so badly that it will not turn completely.

This is a brand new OS 46 AX.

Did I kill it? Not sure how tightening a prop would break an engine.

Thanks in advance,
Hank

If you just recently bought it from a local hobby shop take it back and let them look at it and maybe swap it out. Otherwise give Hobby Services a call at Tower Hobbies as they do OS warranty work.

It's normally next to impossible to "over tighten" a prop. If you heard a "pop" and now have grinding when you turn over the engine then something is definitely wrong. While OS engines are very good quality, it's still possible to have something wrong with it. They are like any other mechanical device, they sometimes just break. Contact where you purchased the motor from and find out what they return policy is. If that doesn't work well do what was stated above and contact Tower Hobbies, they are usually very good about taking care of return issues. I'm sure they will be able to help you out.

If you have a problem with an O.S. Max engine, DO NOT contact Tower Hobbies unless you bought it from them. You would contact us directly.

Bax,
I am sorry. I typed that by mistake. I was trying to do something else while I was typing that answer. Don't know what I was thinking. Heck, I can't even walk and chew gum at the same time!! :D

Once again, sorry.

Does pulling the coverplate void the warrenty? I'm curious what it looks like inside.

Sounds like it may just the piston pinching at the top. Try warming the head up with a heat gun and see if it loosens up. Fairly new engines have a tendency to kick the prop loose.

DON'T TOUCH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If it is bad, and you pull the engine open, OS is off the hook for repair or replacement. Just contact the people per Bax's post and see what happens. You can try and heat up the head, but go no further.
