Airplane Acquisition Syndrome
Does anyone else suffer from this? I've got 5 airplanes, 4 of which still aren't airworthy yet, and I find myself surfing Tower for yet another kit to build and I am really having to fight myself from buying another. I don't have room to put anymore (don't even really have room for the 5 that I have). All this and I am still building up to my first solo. [:@]:D |

Also known as "The Addiction". Don't worry about it, we all suffer from it. You'll know you have it bad when you crash a plane and you think to yourself "hey, I have an extra receiver now. What can I build now??" :D:D

RE: AAS
You are not the only one out there.
I built a sig skybolt 19 years ago, when the covering crack all over the wings, hadn't painted color coat, servo's were mounted, and working, pack it away, last year pick up sig Ryan, started it, need to finnish building wings. pick up nice super cimpmonk on ebay, my Dad gave me. 1/4 scale sig cub, it is finish. and the wife for christmas gave me a Nexstar. and I also check the mags and here and ebay, for the next plane and haven't flown YET. hopefully soon. and I to wonder where to put things. keep telling the kids when they leave their rooms are mine. There are worse things a guy can be into. Chris. |

Hahaha.
5 is a lot when you haven't even soloed yet. I'll be up to my neck in airplanes in a couple years at this rate.[X(] |
RE: AAS
speaking about destroying an airplane. I had a tree jump in front of my plane and it broke wing for the tenth time and the fuselage for 5th time and the first thoughts that went through my mind were hey I have a plane without engine and radio gear sitting on my bench I don't have to order anything new for it. Flew it the next morning, what a sickness. I even left some of the cable screw down connectors from the old plane stay on the new plane, easier to find spare parts that way, you know ez connectors. it was amazing the plane was dead but the engine was still running in the tree, I had to kill the engine from the transmitter so I knew every part was still good

RE: AAS
That kind of reminds me of a little story. Last summer I was teaching a guy to fly. He needed to do a little work to his plane and didn't know what to do, so I told him to come over to my house and I'd show him how to do it. He came over and as I was working I needed a part, so I go it out of one of my parts bins. He then said "It must be nice to have all these parts when you need them, I don't have anything at all". To which I responded "No it's not, because a lot of these parts were stripped off of wrecked planes. This is not how you want to fill your parts bins!!!!" :D:D

Glad to know I am not alone. Anyone want to buy a plane or two?

RE: AAS
At last count I have 15 flyable airplanes stored in my garage, 8 under construction, and 23 kits on the shelf, and I still look for more. I am not addicted to RC, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not. I am just a large collector of balsa!!! Good Luck, Dave

RE: AAS

RE: AAS
Due to space considerations, plus a completely unreasonable limit negotiated with the Favorite Dragon, I only have 20 models & it stays pretty constant at that number. That is not to say that I don't scheme & plot to surreptitiously increase the mother-lode, but the Dragon has wicked radar & can smell a plot before I even think of it.
Three is the ABSOLUTE minimum, but about 200 would be a really good number. |
RE: AAS
Space is not an issue here, guys. Anyone is welcome to send me planes that they don't have room to store and I will be more than happy to "store" them.

RE: AAS
My aim in life is to have one airplane for each memory location in my transmitter.... I have accomplished that... but then again, I do have that "extra" transmitter with another four memory spots... a couple of basic 4-channel radios.... hmmmmm, wonder where I put that Tower Hobbies catalogue?!?
