tail dragger question

im working on a fw190 25 arf. and i noticed that it does not have a tail wheel. it only has a wire skid thats mounted to the tail in a fixed posistion. the vertical stab is round and i assume that a wheel could not be put on. without a wheel are these planes much more dificult to take off and land (from a control standpoint). any iput would be nice before i take her to the field.

Tail wheel would be nice alright. Who is the mfg or provide a picture or the tail area. (close-up)

A tailwheel would be nice. The FW-190 had a notoriously narrow landing gear. If the manufcturer stuck to the scale width, it might be a handful with or without the tailwheel.

Actually, it's the ME/BF-109's that have the narrow gear you're talking about. The FW-190's gear is about the same configuration as a P-47 or Mustang. But you're right, a tailwheel would make things MUCH easier.

If you are flying off grass, a skid works quite nicely -- but it you are flying off a paved surface, a tail wheel is a lot more desirable.

As noted by Lowlevelflyer, the FW 190 has a wide wheel stance.

Thanks for the correction, Low. As someone else posted, if you're flying off pavement, by all means install a tailwheel.

the FW-190 is very stable on the ground with the wide gear, in the air it is a very smooth flyer with excellent rate of roll. it generally does not glide well.
