Eagle II dihedral
 

IM building a eagle II and im wondering about the wing. You can build the wing with different dihedrals. One seems to much the other not enough. Is it possible to put it somewhere in the middle. I want to use it as my trainer but I would also like a little less dihedral it seems to be over kill. Just wondering ... thanks

Joey, Use the lower dihedral. It's not too little, but the other IS too much.

I agree with MinnFlyer. Use the least amount of dihedral on this plane. In fact, on mine after I learned to fly, I put a wing on it with no dihedral at all. If you knew how to fly, I would suggest no dihedral at all. If your still learning, then use the least amount called for in the plans.

I have an Eagle II kit waiting to be built. Check there might be three different dihedrals.
The Eagle II is a nice flying plane and a great trainer, it is what I used.
With maximum dihedral it still loops (inside only) and rolls.
I could even fly upside down quite awhile.
If you are a beginner I would try the middle or max.
If you have experience I would go with minimum - it is what I am going to do with mine.

I am currently recovering my first Eagle, I still enjoy it and it's great to have around if you go long periods without flying.
Something nice and easy to get back into shape with after the Winter off.

Never thought I'd disagree with MinnFlyer.

Minnflyer is right on....On the two eagles I built, the original Eagle 63, and the Eagle II, I used the lower dihedral on each one because I used ailerons. The max dihedral gage is ONLY for a wing with NO ailerons.

The eagle2 kit that I built several years ago did have 3 different dihederal amounts for the kit. One was for building a three channel and the other two were for use with ailerons.

As stated earlier, the smaller amount of dihedral would be best IMO for a total beginner. If you have some flight experience, then going with no dihedral is a good option.

As I recall, the instructions gave me the choice of 3 levels of dihedral. The most dihedral was for use when you set up the Eagle 2 without ailerons. I expect the high amount of dihedral is required for stability when you turn with rudder only. The middle amount of dihedral was recommended for use with ailerons for beginning pilots, and the least amount was recommended with ailerons for pilots with some experience.

I buildt mine using ailerons with the middle amount of dihedral. In hind sight I think that was a mistake - I should have used the least amount. Mine is more stable than necessary, even for a beginner I think. It will just barely do an outside aileron roll and flying inverted is a real balancing act - it really wants to right itself.
