Help please: using angle template
Hi all,
I've just started with R/C and model building. I decided that my first plane would be the Telemaster 40 kit. I started building but I got stuck building the wings where I have to install the ribs. The instruction told me to transfer the root rib angle template onto a cardboard and use that to set the root rib at the proper dihedral angle. My question is, how do I use the template to do that? I have been tilting the thing around, and after scratching my head for quite some times, I still can't figure out how to do it. This might be a stupid question, but please bear with this beginner. Thank you very much! |
RE: Help please: using angle template
I am not one to really help here as I am still a beginner myself, but from what I understand with my builds is: there is an angle of the template that is pressed against the root rib (stand the template up on its edge to do this) and hold the angled edge according to the plans instructions against the rib and press the rib into the template angle (so that the rib is leaning onto the angle of the template) and when the rib is leaning into the correct angle glue it in the proper places according to where the plans tell you to.
That is the basics, I am sure someone here, such as RCKen, can explain it more detailed. My opinion, and how I do it, is to trace the dihedral angle template onto a piece of SCRAP WOOD, and then cut the wood into the template shape. The wood is more sturdier than cardboard and less likely to fall over or bend while doing the dihedral rib. |

tigerdude: That sounds right. I'll try it. Thank you very much!

RE: Help please: using angle template
if the plans call for you to glue in the top spar before setting the angle you mark the spar at the angle the template shows and then cut. if you set the top spar per the angle before you glue it in just lay the template on the plans standing up, set the top spar in place and then glue it just make sure you have the correct side of the template against the spars
