Tiger Trainer 40 engine suggestions

I have just bought an ARTF Tiger Trainer 40 kit to practice for my A cert and I was just wondering if anyone has any experience of this model and what motor is best suited to it, should I go to the top end i.e a .46 or would a good ballraced .40 be sufficient?

I am thinking a good 46 would be nice. It is nice to have the extra power at times and it is easy enough to bring down the throttle if it is flying to fast. Good Luck, Dave

Hi, This was our club plane for about a season. I've instructed on it a bunch of times. In general, I recommend a ball-bearing .46 engine... This plane will fly great with a .40, but for reuse value, or if you might put it on floats, a BB .46 will keep you happier, longer. Not a bad trainer. If $$ is an issue, there are plenty of inexpensive 2-stroke BB .46's around... They all can be make to run beautifully.... GMS .47, Mecoa .46, Magnum .46 or .52 .... of course if money is no issue, there's always O.S.

Just one man's opinion.
Best of Luck,
Dave

The Thunder Tiger Pro .40 or Pro .46 would be good choices as well.

I had a Thunder Tiger GP40 on mine and it did alright. I later sold that engine and got a GP42. I could tell a difference in the performance and was satisfied with it. I am a real fan of the Thunder Tiger Pro46 and that is what I would put on it if I wanted the best performance.

Yep, I'll second the TT Pro .40 or .46 recommendation. Great engines.

The TT pro 46 is a good choice. The OS 46AX has a touch more power but costs about $20.00 more. Either one will make you a happy flyer. Don't bother with the 40 size engines. Almost the same price as the 46 but less usable power. The weight is also pretty much the same because they use the same case and bore the cylinder wider so you actually get a better hp/weight with the 46 engines. [8D]

Thanks for the help, Looks like the BB .46 will be the way to go.
