Magic plane cleaning spray.
I have read some posts in the past where a type of cleaner has been mentioned to use for cleaning planes after a days flying.
This cleaner is not sold in Australia under the name mentioned but no doubt there is an equivalent. From memory the cleaner has a number in its name but I am not sure what it is. Can someone please tell me the name of the cleaner and what other names it may go as? Regards, Troy. |

Hi troyp,I use window cleaner mostly,if the build up is a lot I'll use alcohol, only trouble I've had with alcohol is that it can work under the covering and decals, loosing the edges, tons of different cleaners will work and some people make there own secret brew,409 cleaner might be what you're asking about.

I make my own secret brew that really does a fantastic job for me. Start with a gallon bottle of windshield washer fluid (costs all of about $1) here in the US. Then I put a good healthy squirt of Dawn dishwashing liquid in the bottle. Shake it up and clean. The Dawn will cut the grease and oil down in a heartbeat. Plus the windshield washer fluid lets you clean and shine your plane with no streaks or film. Give it a try and if it doesn't work for you, you're only out a buck or so.

I use Simple Green. Maybe you're thinking of "409"? I've also used just a towel without any cleaner and it worked almost as well.

Like MHawker said using a clean, dry towel or dry paper towels seems to work equally as well as windex, 409, etc. I usually wipe down my plane with dry paper towels. Sometimes I'll spray on a little windex after cleaning with dry paper towels to try and cut through that last bit of residue.

Use something non-toxic. I don't think 409 falls into this category.

yes 409 is the one. What is it exactly and does it have another name? RCKen your home brew sounds good. We even have Dawn here in Aust. I might have to give it a try.
Thanks for the help, Troy. |
