SIG Kadet LT40
Hello All, I would like your opinion(s) on the SIG Kadet LT40 as a first aircraft. I am a novice with some supervised stick time. I am considering the Kadet with a TT Pro .46 engine. Will this be sufficient? Also I would like to know what type of flight pack to use on it, as I have already bought a Futaba 9C radio CH #59. Your cooperation and advice will be greatly appreciated.

Sig kit ?
This will be a really good combination. A little more radio than needed however it will allow you to progress into other planes later. I'm building one for a club trainer with an Irvine 53 only because it will also have available floats.

good engine size, standard flight pack is all that is needed.

LT40
I built the LT for my first plane and used the .46FX OS for power. That motor is way more power than required to fly the plane but is perfect for more advanced models. When I wrecked mine first time I replaced the .46 with a OS .32FX and it flies wonderfully well with it. If you are worried about crashing and rebuilding the LT go with one of the extremely durable plastic and metal trainers (Armidillo or Spad) and concentrate on flying.

Oh, one other suggestion. At a minimim go to FMSwebsite, can be found on spadtothebone.com, and download free flight simulator. Even using simple cheap joystick it will help tremendously in learning to fly. Spad website also has trainer models to add to free simulator. Enjoy

LT 40
Great trainer, From what I saw of the Armidillo and some of the others that lack real Balsa, stay away. The Armidillo is anything but a beginners plane. The LT 40 is hard to beat as is the new Horrizon Alpha. Both are very stable and will lend themselves to some basic acrobatics when the controls are moved up.

Stay with the LT-40 idea and you won't be dissappointed. Get an instructor to check it out and teach you to fly it, that way you don't have to worry about crashing it. The LT-40 seems to be pretty flexible regarding engine size. I've seen them with 40LA, 46LA, 46FX, 52FS, and all flew fine. Good luck Larry |
lt40
Larry, One of my buddies has a LT 75, thats a LT 40 with one wing bay removed off each end, no dihedril, and a Mag 75 on the nose. Lots of fun and shows how versitile the plane actually is. :D

Thanks for the advice
Hello all, I want to thank each of you who took time to answer my questions. The kit and engine have been ordered. One more thing in regards to the flight pack, do I have to order the crystal separately for the receiver? Thanks for your cooperation.

SIG Kadet LT40
Hello, first excuse my poor english.
The kadett lt40 is certainly an excelent choice to start modeling. it's inspired of rhe kadett series (senior, seniorita and recently senior arf ). those planes are recognised worldwide (also in belgium) as the best trainer ever made. In my club a seven years old boy is actualy learning to fly on a lt40 fitted with an os52 surpass and i found this combination excelent ! |

Hi seaknight1962,If you get the kit with the radio, reciever, flight pack, etc then all the goodies are there, the reciever CAN be ordered with or without a crystal, but will cost more than going with the kit.

Flight Pack
Hi seaknight1962,If you get the kit with the radio, reciever, flight pack, etc then all the goodies are there, the reciever CAN be ordered with or without a crystal, but will cost more than going with the kit.
Thanks John, the reason why I asked is beacause the servos and receiver that came with the radio will be used on a Heli. Just wanted to know if a new flight pack comes with the crystal to match the radio. |
Sig Kadet LT40
The recievers you get no will come minus the crystal unless it is in the package. If they ask you what channel your transmitter is on then it comes with the crystal, If they dont you'll need to get the crystal. I have the same Plane and engine but I fly JR662. The next Plane I build will either have JR flightpac or Hitech. FYI the Hitech has the battery included but the JR doesn't, neither has th crystal included..

LT-40
My first plane was a LT-40 kit, with OS .46. Awsome combo, Later after I learned to fly solo with it, and built a few more kits, I pulled the OS .46 for my Sig Smith Mini Plane, replaced the OS with a new Thunder Tiger .46. Great engine, will pull the LT with no problem, like all other posts, have another instructor check it out, it is still a fun slow flyer that I still enjoy 3 years later. :D

The LT40, either kit aor ARF is one of the best trainers on the market today.

I learned on this plane, its a very good plane to learn on. In mine i had a Skysport radio an a 46fx. that was a good combination

Perfect choice! Welcome to the best hobby going.
You can order a flight pac for a heli, which will include 5 servos and usually a battery with a higher capacity or for an airplane, which comes with 4 servos and a standard battery. Whichever you choose, tell whomever you order from what chanell you need and thats what youll get. It does cost more, but, you gotta have it, right? I only use JR equiptment, so, Im assuming other brands do things on pretty much the same order? Good luck and have fun! |
SIG Kadet LT40
did'nt learn to fly with the LT-40,but got my thumbs back after a 12 year hiatous.Had a Enya 45cx on mine.Worst problem was getting it to quit flying. The 40 WILL float!Anyway,am sure you will enjoy.
