What Servo?
 

Is there a servo guro out there that can help me. I'd like to know what servo i should use for a steerable nose, My model is appro 14Kg in weight, so I feel I need something with a good torque.

All assistance is greatly recived.

What plane is it, and what are the set up details? A plane of this size would normally use the rudder and a steerable tail wheel.

The plane is one that we are designing and building for the UK version of the SAE Heavy Lift Project, We have ruled out the use of a tail wheel due to position of the wings, and from previous enterys submited by my University, they have found that a Tri undercarriage was more suitable. However last years entry had troubles taking off due to high cross winds and so this year we propose using a steerable nose wheel. (Please forgive me if my terminology for aircraft parts is incorrect. I'm new to RC Model making, I'm reading CAD Technology).

By the way the weight is the calculated combined weight of the finished project.

Just for the nose gear.

You need very little movement on the nose gear; plus or minus 5 degrees will be more than enough. Even the cheapest servos with the moment arms set up properly should easily handle this plane. Use a very short moment arm on the servo and a very long one at the nose gear.

I really do have no idea about RC Modeling, setting up or how to connect the said items.

I thought that this item of equipment (Nose wheel) would need a metal gear servo?

Do you know of a good book that might assist me in this area?

Use a standard servo on the nose gear, use the closest hole on the servo arm, and the farthest hole on the nose gear arm, and you'll be fine.
