maiden flight crash
 
well i finally finished my fw 190. got to maiden her on sat.. had one of the guys take her off and she flew great. handed off the controls to me and it was real cool. came in for landing and when i banked the plane to come about. TIP STALL. got her straightend out just before she hit the ground so that minimized the damage some what. the guy at the field told me he should have warned me that these scale plane wont coast in like my others. so newbies beware when you upgrade to a plane that doesnt float like your used to. hopfully i can get it repaired though.

Sorry about that MrBass. Maybe a longer straight-in final until more used to the stall characteristics. More turn practice at altitude also with it.

If you are headed towards scale, speed is your friend on landing. You can practice this with your trainer by seting up your landing approach and touchdown with at least 25 per cent power. When the mains touch down, cut the power. As for take offs, practice keeping it on the ground as long as you can and then lift off. It takes practice, Good Luck, Dave

I THINK ID FLY IT MORE LIKE A BIPE POWER DOWN, NOT OFF, AND FLY HER DOWN THEN AT THE THRESHOLD CUT POWER AND FLAIR. PRATICE STALLING THE AIRCRAFT AT ALTITUDE, BEWARE A TIP STALL CAN BE HARD TO GET OUT OF, STOP THE SPIN, POWER UP THEN PULL OUT BEST THING TO DO IS GET YOUR LOCAL WAR BIRD ACE TO HELP YOU OUT

Sorry mrBass -- that hurts. You can simulate the warbird a little bit by really adding nose-weight to your trainer. That will force you to keep your speed up in turns & during the approach -- which will be a lot faster. It isn't the same, but it is about as close as you can get with a trainer.

well i sold my trainer months ago. but as said i guess ill practice at high altitudes at first to get used to the stalling characteristics. the guy that took it off even said that he almost stalled it on take off so i guess thats gonna be another thing ill have to be carefull about. i worked on her last night and got quit abit done. one of the fuse cracks i think will need to be reinforced. and the only problem im having is the blind nuts that hold the wing on keep popping out. i tried ca but that doesnt seem to work and these nuts have no backing on them. i guess ill try out 30 min epoxy on them and the mouting block for the wing. dont want that comming loose when i try again.

did the same thing with my fw190 (global). those scale planes dont give much warning. i was coming in at a steep angle ( have to land like that in my backyard because thiers a spot where the wind slams planes into the ground) and once i got to the right height i slammed the elevator up and before i knew it it was upside down in a hay field. luckily the only damage was motor mount, canopy, and tail became unglued. put that thing on the shelf until my skill are a little better, i did fly it about 10 other times so i can handle it just not very comfortably. well, good luck
