GP RV-4 for 2nd plane?
I have been learning on a hobbico Avistar RTF and am progressing pretty well. I think I am ready to start building a kit as a 2nd plane.
I have really been eyeing the GP RV-4. It looks like it is a mild plane, but can be tuned to be pretty wild, just like the Sig SE. For a second plane, I have seen that many people suggest the 4* and the Sig SE. Is the RV-4 a good 2nd plane to try and master? Thanks Kev |
Second plane
The RV-4 is a really nice plane. The thinner wing and low wing would make it a bit much for a second plane. Get the mid star as the second then transition to the RV-4

A lot depends on your progress....you say you are doing pretty good, but how will be in 3 months (building time for 'normal' building a kit) if you crash tomorrow?
I fly the RV-4 by GP and love it - powered by an OS .52 so it is not overpowered. Has flaps, cool effect....great plane. I would hate to see you dump a plane that took that long to build - I'd opt for a Stik of some kind for your next plane and while you are flying that, start building the RV-4. You will also need 5 servos for the GP RV-4.....and a 6 channel+ radio. Jerry |

Go for it, when you start flying it have an experienced pilot on the buddy box until you get used to the plane. Don't worry if you don't have a 6 channel radio; use a Y-harness for the aileron servos.

GP RV-4 for 2nd plane?
Thanks for the info everyone. After shopping around, I think I am going to go with the Sig SE with an OS 61 FX that I have available. The SE seems to have a lot of tunable characteristics that I believe will help me grow with this hobby.
Thanks once again. Kev |

SE's are also a really quick build, I just tossed together SE #2 in probably about 15-20 hours of building time. (covering not included...)
Once you start building, I've got a list of mods you may want to think about. (Some compiled from other sources and some my own) http://www.ryankramer.com/planes/extra_mods.shtml |
