One might wonder why someone with a screen name such as yours would even ask such a question. The answer is with proper training, persistance, and a willingness to practice, they are not too hard to fly.

Flying an RC plane is a learned skill, just like riding a bicycle. You will need (for rapid results) an instructor and you will need to practice.

Each person learns at a different rate. I have seen people solo after 4 lessons, then again, I have seen people take as long as 2 years to solo. The average is USUALLY about 3 - 4 months going out EVERY Saturday and Sunday to fly.

Well, an RD plane probably wouldn't be that difficult to fly. However, RC planes are tough. If you hate RC, then you'll hate the thousands that you'll eventually sink into this hobby...

There is a lot of information on the beginning process of learning to fly R/C planes, right here on R/CU.

I think Campy's estimation of the average being 3-4 months of Saturdays and Sundays to be too long. I think due to the exposure to simulators and computer games, this average is likely considerably less, now-a-days. Age, definatly is a determining factor. On average if you are younger, you will learn faster then if you are older. If you hook up with a good instructor, you will learn faster than if you hook up with a poor one. Many variables come into play.

Hey Hate RC:

All these guys are right. It all depends on the individual. If you are young, say a teen, with good hand-eye coordination and great reflexes you should have no problem! The older you get the slower you get.
