Reverse Elevons
 

I feel silly asking this but I've been staring at this problem for too long...

I have a Hitec Laser 4 Transmitter, Electron 6 receiver and a plane with elevons. I can't get the forward / reverse settings to line up with a reasonable configuration. The closest I can get is to make it so that pushing the stick forward and back turns the plane left and right. And pushing the stick right and left turns the plane up and down. It's like the elevators and ailerons are reversed. If I held the transmitter sideways, I could fly the plane just peachy.


The "reversing" controls on the transmitter aren't any help. One switch makes it so that right and left are reversed. The other makes it so that up and down are reversed. Reversing the wiring of the servos doesn't work, the servos won't function when the wires are reversed. I want to swap aileron for elevator (as it were... it being an elevon plane)

What incredibly simple thing am I missing? I've flown this plane before so I know it's doable... argh!

Maybe I'm missing something too, but it sounds to me like you have your servo leads plugged in the wrong channels on your receiver. I do not understand what you mean when you say you cannot get forward reverse setting to line up.

But they can only be plugged into either Channel 1 and Channel 2 or Channel 2 and Channel 1. If I reverse them, that doesn't fix my problem. That would do just as much good as switching the forward/reverse (actually, I looked at them again, they're "normal" and "reverse" ) switch on the transmitter. If I had ailerons and elevators, your suggestion would fix my problem.

Ah, sorry. The only settings on the Laser 4 are little switches that read "Nor" and "Rev"... for normal and reverse configuration of each channel.

This sounds like the pushrods for the control surfaces are on the wrong side of the servo horns. Set up the Tx so the elevator function is reversed, so pulling back on the stick gives down elevator. Then remove the servo horns and turning them 180 degrees so the pushrods are on the oppisite side of the servos. Then check aileron function. Hope this helps!


edit: Switching only one servo horn may work also, then reverse the other channel. It's tough to picture the problem without seeing it.

I hope this is a silly question but are you SURE you have the transmitter set for Elevons and not V-tail?

If I switch channel 2 on the transmitter, the reaction to pushing up & down on the stick is exactly reversed. Switching ch 1 exactly reverses the reaction to pushing left & right on the stick.

05raptor660r, the holes for the servos are very precicely cut out so I can't (or rather really don't want to) try to put the servo in differently.

You said you've flown this plane before, what's changed? Are you using the same servos you used before? If they are not the same servos, perhaps one of them has reverse rotation?

I've flown it before but I removed a servo a while ago and am just now replacing it. Is there such a thing as a reversed servo? Hmm. I'll look at all my servos for this when I get home tonight.

Some servos travel in opposite directions for the SAME input, meaning one is CW rotation and the other is CCW rotation.

Were the servos you removed BOTH the same type/model?
Are the servos you are installing both the same model as each other? Should they be or should one be opposite the other?
