9C Programming Problem
Hello :D,
I'm not exactly a newbie, just old enough to have to few brain cells to figure this out so I'm asking for help. I've got a Futaba 9CHP transmitter. I just bought a new NexStar. I'm trying to set up the trainer for elevons. So... questions are, what receiver plugs do the ailerons go into? ie left=1 and right=6? Next question. After reading the manual I'm throughly confused as to how to program the transmitter for elevons. Can anyone please explain to me step by step how to set up the transmitter for elevons assuming the ailerons are plugged into plugs 1 & 6 or what ever their supposed to. Thanks for any help you can offer. Maybe I will go back to control lines. A lot less to set up![>:] Thanks again, Bruce Bennett Woodburn, Or |
RE: 9C Programming Problem
Are you trying to use elevon or flaperon? As I remember, elevon is for tailess planes.
Right aileron goes in ch 1 and left in ch 6 ( you can do it either way but this is the standard set up for flaperon). Boby |

Bruce
First Elevons is usually reserved for planes whose elevator functions as the ailerons as well (Delta Wing). I am not sure what your objective is with the Nexstar. Now, if your goal is to have the ailerons to move in the same direction as the elevator, then you can mix flaps or spoilerons and the elevator. If you want the elevator to move in the same direction as the ailerons, then ailevator will work. If you use elevons, you can get 1 and 6 to work, but channel 2 stops working because there isn't a elevator in an elevon plane. |
RE: 9C Programming Problem
Oh Darn, Told you I was loosing them cells quick. Ment Flaperons. Sorry Take two!

RE: 9C Programming Problem
Bruce follow the instructions for flaperon set up. Channels 1 and 6 are correct. Keep your flaperon imputs low at the beginning. A little flap goes a long ways, especially on a trainer like the Nextstar. Also keep in mind that flaperon set changes the response of the ailerons when the flaps are deployed, which can cause some adverse yaw when the flaps are down.

RE: 9C Programming Problem
Would if I could but, the instructions in the operations manual and what I'm looking at on the display of the computer are two different things. A little more information follows, The left aileron seems to function okay except for not enough throw, this is with end-points set to 100%. The right alieron only functions with adjustment of VRa, the first little pot under the campac module. I can't seem to get both ailerons to function in unison let alone get the flap function functional!! Any thoughts??

RE: 9C Programming Problem
Bruce,
Enable the Flaperon function and it will work |
RE: 9C Programming Problem
Thanks for the input but the flaperons are enabled!
Here is what the computer is saying: PROG.MIX3 1/2 (ON) (AILE-FLAP) RATE <- -> 0% 0% OFFSET 0% PROG.MIX3 2/2 MIX > ON MAS > AILE SLV > FLAP LINK > OFF TRIM > OFF SW > G POSI > DOWN I think I've tried most combinations but I would be more then happy for some input. Again, currently the left aileron is functioning but only at about 50% throw even with servo stops at 100%. The right aileron only works if using VRa and it has full swing. I doublechecked both AIL-DIFF and ELEVON to make sure they were INH. They are. Thanks again. Bruce |
RE: 9C Programming Problem
Well it looks like you have the custom mixes on and you might not need them. Turn them off and go back to the *FLAPERON page in the radio and not the *PROG.MIX1 ,2,3 etc. This may help.
Forgot to say you will need to go to the AUX-CH SELECT and put CH-6 on the variable switch you like I have used one on the top. The side sliders are easy to bump and cause havoc in flight. Also turn on FLAP-TRIM and set to a % above zero. I am pretty sure this setup will work, it is one I used on a Diablotin I once had.Still in the radio. |
RE: 9C Programming Problem
Well thanks for the info Digger, but how do I turn Custom Mixes off. I looked through the book and the transmitter and could'nt find anything about Custom Mixes. Any ideas?

RE: 9C Programming Problem
OK, You have two mixes that is needed.
Turn off the PM3. Turn on the Flaperon That should allow 1 and 6 to move. Use the Nor/Rev selection for each channel to get it to move in the right direction. Next go to the spoileron enable it. YOu need to adjust the rate direction to get the surfaces to move in the direction that you want. None of your PM are needed to do this. Hey Giestware,
Thanks for sticking with me. I think I found it. My problem was I thought that the "PROGMIX3 was the flaperon control because that is what it said next to PROGMIX3. Turns out the rotary control rotates into a second column and that is what takes me to FLAPERON control. I just tried. it and both ailerons are responding, as flaps but its a start. Thanks again for your help and thanks to all the others that responded. Its a wonderful hobby!! Bruce |
RE: 9C Programming Problem
OK, go to the reverse menu and select the channel that is moving incorrectly and change it's direction. Now go to the spoilerons menu and enable it.

RE: 9C Programming Problem
Bruce I am not totally understanding what you want to do. Do you want flaps or flaperons? Flaps work from a knob or slider. Flaperons work when ELEV is applied. If you want flaperons then the master needs to be ELEV and the slave AILE on one mix and the other mix should be ELEV to FLAP.

RE: 9C Programming Problem
You should not use mixes.
This is what I am trying to get him not to do. Use the spoileron menu (air brake) with elevator as master. ORIGINAL: daveopam Bruce I am not totally understanding what you want to do. RE: 9C Programming Problem
One quick question. Are you just trying to use the two channels so you can have independent servos for aileron operation. or do you want them to function as flaps too? the discussion that is occuring seems confused as to what you want it to do which is why some are telling you not to use computer mixing but it is unavoidable if you want independent servos. if you want to set up ailerons to function only on two servos then make sure your prog mixes are set to inh which is inhibit. Select only flaperon and set to act. the menu that appears where it says ail 1 and ail 2 with l and r above it is where you can set your aileron differential. This means that you can set the up and down max deflections of either servo. examples are 1/2 inch down and 3/8 inch up this allows for nice axial rolls on certain aircraft. See recommended throws on instruction sheet. you do not need mixing on page 2/2 of advance acro. leave them all inhif you need to reverse a servo function use basic menu 1/2 reverse setting to reverse a servo. If this is all you need please say so or try to explain your need clearer

RE: 9C Programming Problem
Im also confused. The Nexstar uses a single aileron servo. With a single aileron servo it is impossible to use the ailerons as flaps, period..
If you are using dual aileron servos just follow the flaperon guide in your 9C manual, you do NOT need to use a P-mix to have flap control on a switch, one of the knobs or a slider, there is already a flaperon function (a mix;) built into the radio for you to use). Im going off of memory, but I think a mix is required if you want your ailerons to respond as flaps in direct response to up elevator input. I may need to go back and re read my manual on that though. Personally, unless you are just wanting to play with the function, there is no need whatsoever for flaps on a Nexstar. |
RE: 9C Programming Problem
Again, thanks for every bodies concern and help.
What I'm attempting to do is use two servos on channels 1 and 6 to operate the ailerons and also attempt flaperon control for landings. I think the last problem I was having was trying to find !QUOT!spoileron!QUOT! control in my transmitter and couldn't. Well now it looks as if Futaba calls it !QUOT!air-brakes!QUOT!. I'll look into this. Again, thanks to all of you for your help and patience with this old (newbie) flyer! I'll let you know how it goes. Bruce |
RE: 9C Programming Problem
If you are wanting to use true flaperons... I would just use an elevator to flap mix. Play with the rate numbers to get the desired effect. Im looking at it on my 9C right now and its about as simple of a mix as you can get.

RE: 9C Programming Problem
No mix is needed. Use the Airbrake function and you can mix elevator flap automatically.

RE: 9C Programming Problem
That will work well too. A few more numbers to play with but in the end its 6 one way 1/2 dozen the other.
