Plane Question for Training.

Hello All,
I am new here and to the hobby, my JR radio comes in tommorrow. My brother started this hobby a year ago and already has a training aircraft. I will be moving to where he lives in a few months and would like to get into the hobby. I dont want to buy another trainer since I can probably use his. Has anyone learned on a good second plane instead of a high wing trainer? I will be buddy boxing it with his club experienced pilots. One of them suggested I get a 60 size ultra stick and learn with that. He said I could fly my bros plane a few times first if I wanted. (My bro agreed) So whats your take on this and do you have any airplanes to recommend?
I was thinking the
ultra stick 60
dragon lady 60

I will buy the saito fa-100 motor, seems to me you guys like it around here. I will also use a sim i bought off ebay for a month. Its not the 200 dollar sim, but hopefully it will give me an idea. Thanks in advance.

Jim

RE: Plane Question for Training.

I think you would benefit from buying another trainer. A Saito 100 is a lot of engine for beginners like me and you. If you absolutely don't want a trainer, a super stick would be just fine as long as your instructor agrees. If you use that engine, adjust it mechanically to stay below 3/4 throttle until you are ready for all that power. Trust me, too much speed and a little confusion can ruin your day.

There is also the H-9 PTS if you want a warbird later, it starts out as a trainer and can be 'tuned-up' as your skills increase. There are many threads here on RCU regarding the PTS.

Good Luck!!

RE: Plane Question for Training.

From your choices I would say neither plane is going to be something to learn on. I know that this isn't what you want to here, but it's what you need to hear. Learn on a trainer. No matter how gentle others may tell you that the planes you mentioned are, they aren't a trainer. If you can use your brother's trainer to learn on then that's a great thing, but please don't skip over a trainer. They're called "trainers" for a reason, that's because they are designed to be trained on. Please reconsider your options and learn on a trainer.

Hope this helps
