Crashed the 1st, now want a 2nd
Well guys, I crashed my Superstar .40 yesterday and am ready for a second plane. What should I go with that I can transfer everything too? I do want something a little more aerobatic and faster if that's possible. I have 4 servos and a .40 O.S. Max LA engine out of my old plane.
Any place I can find a used plane in the Houston area? |

ORIGINAL: Alladin Well guys, I crashed my Superstar .40 yesterday and am ready for a second plane. What should I go with that I can transfer everything too? I do want something a little more aerobatic and faster if that's possible. I have 4 servos and a .40 O.S. Max LA engine out of my old plane. Any place I can find a used plane in the Houston area? Except for trainers, the 40 LA is going to limit your choices of planes. Your best bet to obtain something faster and more aerobatic is to look at 25 - 32 size planes. The 40 LA only has about 1/2 the horsepower of a 40 - 46 ball bearing engine. |
RE: Crashed the 1st, now want a 2nd
Ahh ok, well I can do basic acrobatics and fly inverted as you mentioned. Just for some dumb reason when I was flying inverted I gave it up elevator instead of down and there's your answser.

LOL
I crashed my trainer in much the same way. Showing off with low, inverted high-speed turns. OOOOOPS....wait, if down is up and up is down, then what is sideways. Get another trainer or a stick. Ultra, super, big, ugly, whatever...stick. They make great second planes and will do lots of maneuvers. I have one as my second plane and I have 8 gallons through it. You can pick one up (new ARF) for around 100$ and get a magnum .46 xls BEARING engine for like 70$ on sale. You already have everything else you need. Don't bother putting that .40 LA in anything else but a trainer or a .30 size plane. (I still have a .46 LA NIB and it sits on the shelf whilst other engines are cycled through). Good Luck!! |
RE: Crashed the 1st, now want a 2nd
If you are strapped for money and need to reuse the LA 40, the tower uproar can be a consideration, ARF or kit.

agexpert ,
You should build yourself a Delta to put that .46 on. I'm running a .46 LA on my Hanger 9 twist. More than enough power to fly and pull that 3d plane around. Don't get me wrong, if you are looking for pure 3D performance, that isn't the engine to use, but I've had really good luck with my .46 LA. |

Thanks, I just started a new thread for this subject, cuz I did'nt want to hijack this one.
Thanks again!! |
RE: Crashed the 1st, now want a 2nd
Here are a few potential ARFs
Modeltech Magic 3D (definitely light enough for the LA, and no cowl) http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXBGB0&P=0 Tower Hobbies Uproar 40 (no cowl) http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXGPG8&P=0 Phoenix Sonic 25 Low Wing (no cowl) http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXEDN7&P=0 The Sonic 25 looks more 'slippery' than the others so it would probably be fastest. The Magic is definitely intended to fly slow. |

These things are fast & cheap! We have two guys at our field that have a gang of these things, they love them because they like to fly fast. If they crash they laugh it off & break out another one.;) |
