Joystick problem on a Futaba 7CAP TX
 

I had bought a 7cap radio at the Toledo RC show. It's used but in great condition. In have but only one problem, only half of my aileron joystick works. From neutral to full left it works great, but neutral to full right I get no responce. I imagine that it's a simple fix, just remove and replace the aileron joystick pot. Is it worth my time to do it myself, if I can purchase the pot from Futaba, or should I just pack it up and send it off to Futaba? Has anyone else had the same problem? Thanks, Dave

While it's probably not so hard to replace the pot, there might be other potential problems. It wouldn't be a bad idea to send it to Futaba or somewhere like Radio South to have them change the pot and give the rest of the radio a complete going over at the same time.

Send it to Tony Stillman at Radio South and let him fix it... He is the most reputable Electronics repair person in the United States. Most every major player in the RC Hobby uses Tony.

Send it to hobby services. they are the factory techs and they are awsome to work with. More than liley it's a warrenty issue and that were you send it for warrenty work, ya need a reciept though, either way it they charge to bad.

one question though. Did you try reseting the model location. their might be some sort of weird programing on the slot

I looked around all the settings, but everything looks ok. Where is Radio South located?

Tony is located in Pensacola, Florida. Hes a real nice guy and he does high quality work. I know he is a Futaba Rep, and Im not sure but I think he is a factory authorized service location.

If you are only getting 1/2 of the stick working you may need to turn on the link to get the two ailerons servos working together. Just go into whatever mix you are using to run your aileron and make sure the mix is "activate" and the link is "on" also, make sure the rates are turned up and not on a low number in your endpoint or atv setup.

HEY MIKEY, IT WORKS!!!!!:D:D:)[8D] I found the e-point setting on the ailerons to be turning off on the right side of the aileron! I owe you man! You saved me the time, money and pain of shipping this radio, thank you! In the mean while I played with the mixing setups, and figured that out too! I'm on my way. :D

i would stil;l send it in for a check up..i send mine in during the winter to make sure everything is ok....

Also, I dont disagree with Chris. If you bought the radio from a stranger and have not seen the radio in use before, it might not be a bad idea to send it in and make sure everything is working corectly. Checkups are cheap and usually the things that surface are really inexpensive repairs. It more than likely is ok, but it would not hurt and could save you a ton of money in a destroyed plane if by chance the person sold you a transmitter with a small problem. The checkup will be cheap and it will seem REAL cheap if they find something wrong. Things like worn pots, old worn brushes that are part of what makes your antenna work, the antenna itself etc, etc, can be very subtle problems. But if they suddenly surface during a flight you are done for.

Just a freindly suggestion, do whatever you feel comfortable with...

Thank you Mike. I will look into it, now that I can call and not be in a panic. I'm going to look into Radio South, I've heard many people talk about them. Thanks again guys! Happy reading and send in the radio for a check up. Better safe than sorry at a minimal cost. :)

You should be able to set ot back to "factory defaults" for each "model memory" and reprogram from there. At least then you will have a KNOWN starting point.
