Buddy box compatibility

I have a hitec laser 4 (master) and a jr (slave). there is a spot for the crystal in the jr. It won't work. the guy at the LHS said that hitec can only be used on as a slave on my set up. any oppinions.

Yes, get a Hitec to use as the buddy box.
