RE: Rubber bands too tight
Yeah, Gene, if I were building another trainer, I would make it bolt on wing. But I keep picking up used trainers and it would require me opening the wing and reinforcing the leading edge to take the pegs and putting wedges in the trailing edge to run the bolts down against. And I hate rubber banding the wings. So using velcro in place of rubber bands on already built wings is the lazy guy's way out. And it evey looks good.

RE: Rubber bands too tight
With this whole velcro methodolgy, it sounds like a very interesting idea, but no one is sharing exactly how to use the velcro to hold the wings. can someone please elaborate on how to use the velcro method to hold these wings down? I myself don't like messing with the rubber bands, and I'm very interested in learning or seeing this option of replacing the rubber bands.....
Thanks. Mikey |
RE: Rubber bands too tight
I used rubber bands that were too loose on one of my trainers back in the 1970's when I first started flying........what an erratic flight that was....wing kept changing incidence as it pulled the rubber bands....I wasn't ready to be a stunt pilot yet! If that happens to you, slow down and land...
It could happen to anyone.......by the way, use new rubber bands each time you go to the field....somepeople dry the oil residue from their bands with kitty litter.......don't do it....it does work but the bands get weaker each time it is done and they will eventually break.........the price of new rubber bands is cheap compared to the cost of your plane...IMHO. |
