How do I keep the color
I bought a Tower Hobbies .46 and it has the purple anodized head. I was wondering what I can do to keep the purple from fading away. I understand it goes quickly.

RE: How do I keep the color
Nothing that will last any longer than the anodization does. It won't hurt a thing to let it fade. Mine lasted about 6 weeks before it was gone. Nice little engine. Mine took a bit of fiddling before I got the idle right, and it would still "load up" if idled more than 1/2 a minute or so, but it made a lot of power for a .46.

Take pride in flying that thing till it disintegrates. They are made to fly, not be um.....'purdy'. I have some darn nice engines hidden away by cheap fiberglass cowls. Your plane should be well maintained, but a well-used engine will not look new for very long.
Fly it and keep it running well, but don't worry about the anodized color. There is nothing you can do to keep it looking new.... aside from keeping it...um...new, (i.e. not flying). Welcome to the DARK SIDE.....mwahahahah...and to the end of 'Free-Time' and 'Disposable-Income' as you know them. |
RE: How do I keep the color
Consider the purple as the "pre-run color" and don't worry about it. Btw, when you get to 60 size planes the TH 75 is one the best around. Only $5.00 more than the 60 size, has the same mounting, runs great, easy to adjust and has gobs of power. ITs the only engine I buynow for 60 size planes. I have an OS 60FX which runs smooth but is weak in power compared with the TH engines and very expensive. :D

RE: How do I keep the color
My Tower is getting close to about 8 months old now. I fly the heck out of it, it runs great, idles smoothe, gives great transition & power, & is still as purple on the head as the day I bought it!!
Fatsky's right about that TH .75. A friend of mine picked up a Funtana with one on it at a swap-meet. Fired it up & proceeded to hover that thing just as long as he liked then would pull out like a rocket with un-limited vertical climb. For $200 RTF complete with an Airtronics radio, he scored a pretty nice plane.;) |
RE: How do I keep the color
Like all the others have said, it ain't for looks, it for pullin' stumps! :D

RE: How do I keep the color
I figured as much, just was hoping it could stay looking good. Guess I'll fly the heck out of it and not worry about the looks. Thanks

RE: How do I keep the color
Mine faded to a sick light blue after just a few hours, but it is a serious power house. Didn't have the air leaking and tuning problems with mine that some have had. It just runs. Butt ugly, tho

RE: How do I keep the color
The blue anodising eventually disappears altogether -- no way to stop it, other than to re-anodize.

RE: How do I keep the color
I just flew mine yesterday & after a closer look I guess it has faded some, but not too much. It's still nice & purple just a little duller looking I guess, but I don't care. As long it as it runs the way it does, it's all good.
