Looking for a good Gas trainer
 

I am looking for a good gas trainer.. I have had a few electric airplanes and ended up crashing both of them. I am not familiar with what parts i need with gas so any help would be more than appreciated. I already have a decent remote so i wouldnt want a RTF, but somethin easy to put together because i am a modeler :(

well you could go down to the old trusty hobby shop and ask them. but for the engine well i happen to know the one for you all you got to do is go to www.coxmodels.com and then go to engines then if you want a goood motor take a look at the tee dee or black widow ranging in about 49.99$ but if you want cheap but quality check out the 0.49 sure start its really easy to start well thats what my friend told me:D

G'day Mate,
I'm an instructor here in Australia, & I find that one of the best planes for value for money & flyability is the World Models Skyraider Mk1, it is cheap about $120.00 here, easy to put together easy to fly, the last 2 I test flew did not need any trim changes at all not even elevator. A good 46 will do, swinging a 12x6 APC or Master Airscrew, will fly it fast enough to learn on at about 1/2 throttle, & aerobatics can easily be flown with the same setup, when you are ready of course. My last student was a young lady who is now ready to do her Bronze wings test, that is a solo competancy test we have here is AUS, the only thing to watch out for with this plane is that the covering will get a bit brittle if left in the sun for long periods.

By gas I assume you mean a regular glow fuel powered Trainer. There are many to choose from. Sounds like what you want is an ARF by what you said. They will be pretty complete in that they will have the fuel tank & most or all necessary hardware, leaving only the engine & radio equipment needed. Remotes are what we change the channel on our TVs with. You apparently have a decent Transmitter so you will need a reciever (with matching channel chrystal) for your Transmitter & 4 servos. This can usually be bought as a flite pack. We need to know what brand of Radio Transmitter you have to steer you in the right path flite pack wise so there are no compatability issues. Here is the link to the engines that will power them. The OS .46 AX being the engine of choice for most people if you have the money, if not some of the less expensive engines will still suffice just fine for a Trainer.

The Tower Hobbies Trainer 40 ARF is about $65 and is pretty complete except for engine and radio equipment.

If you want to build a kit, the SIG LT-40 is highly recommended. RCKen has a great build thread, in this forum, documenting this kit from opening the box to complete.

The kit is $92 and you have to buy glue, covering, tools, etc. The kit is very complete as far as hardware.

One choice that might be a great fit for you is the Thunder Tiger Tiger Trainer MkII:

This high quality airplane is available as a glueless ARF, meaning that final assembly is very quick and easy. The wing halves would simply need to be bolted together and the tail parts screwed to the fuselage to complete the airframe. This is obviously a very quick building plane. I just checked out BigEd's link to that Thunder Tiger Trainer. That's a pretty sharp little Trainer & a good value with the engine included. Very nice!;) If I were in the market for a new Trainer I just might of have bought that one. I would definitely give it a good look if I were you. Since you allready have a radio the only thing you would need then is the right flite pack to go with your radio & you'd have a very nice Trainer set-up!

A Tower Trainer 40 MKII and a Super Tigre .40 motor would be less expensive, but the Thunder Tiger Tiger Trainer MkII would be much faster to build. Add in the fact that the Thunder Tiger GP-42 engine is super reliable and one of the easiest engines on the planet to tune, and you've got a great trainer combo for somebody like snowdude8126 to learn on. Interestingly enough, the Tiger Trainer MkII and GP-42 engine combo sells for $150 at http://www.thundertiger4u.com and that happens to be their exact minimum purchase amount to get free shipping. Pretty sweet, huh?
