Motor for Multiplex Easy Star
 

Hi

I like to replace a EasyStar stock motor with brushless motor. But, i dont know, what size motor i need. Let say stock motor is 400 size, what size
brushless will be?

I have found the world of brushless motors a bit confusing. I now own 4 of them. There is no standard, as far as I can tell, between different manufactures products. The best thing to do is find the weight of your model and go from there.

I think multiplex planes are on the heavy-side for foam planes. It may be cheaper to replace the plane at the same time, depending on your experience. You are probably into $200 for a moderately sized motor and ESC. Add the cost of Lipos and a charger and you are getting pretty pricey.

What type of flying do you do? What is your skill level...i.e. beginner, intermediate....etc..?

Once you go brushless, you will stay brushless. The same goes for Lipos.

I have 2 of them on my electric DC-3, but, I'm most of time flying a gas or glow planes. That plane only for fun. I like to install a
video camera in it and and fly with head monitor.
I'm don't know about electric staff at all. That why I'm thinking what kind of brushless will replace 400 size motor

Same as me just a month ago.

Try asking in the electrics forum. Just about any 400+ brushless set-up should work. Most of the brushless ESC's are designed for Lipos these days, so more money there, I guess.

I think the multiplex is much better platform for a camera though. I have seen some cool camera setups on GWS slowsticks too. Electric is the only way to go for photos.....less vibe.

D/L a copy of MotoCalc http://www.motocalc.com/ It is free to use for 30 days. There are a good number of brushed AND brushless motors listed as well as a variety of batteries and ESC.

Once you plug in the specs of your plane you can play "what if" with the motors. props, gear boxes and batteries to see what will provide the best performance for you.

i can say that this model is absolutely fine on the stock motor,i used a 9.6 1200mah nimh on mine and it was a wonderful flier,no need to waste money on something that doesn't need replacing.

Hello! I have been fighting to fly the Easy star but I find that with the original 400 motor and 7 cells 2500 mah. batteries, the flight time is just to short. I wanted modell flying to be my hobby and not batterie charging! So! What can one do? Any ideas on motor changing or better cells?

2500 mah,are they c cells?if so then you are probably having to fly on power most of the time because of the weight,aa or af cells are much better because of their light weight,on my 1200 mah pack i could get 40 minute flights by getting up to about 300 ft. and catching thermals,they thermal better than models costing 5 times as much.

well, they are typical 2500 mah. rechargeble batteries bought in a rc-store. I can get the motor to run for probably an hour, but after 3-5 min. the rpm. is so low that flying is not possible. Sounds stupid but is really so.
