son's solo

Had another great day at the field today. I made my first solo a couple of weeks ago and have been grinning ever since, but today somthing happened that made my grin even wider and my head swell I might add. Ben my oldest son (12 y/o) made his first solo and his second and his third..................... and so on. We spent about 4 hours flying this morning and can not think of a better outing for a father and son. I think I will go soak my head in some ice water to get the swelling to go down, then I gotta mow grass again. Still thinking about that 40 by 200 foot strip in the back yard grumpy! Better yet why not spray with round up and not have to mow. That would leave more time to fly

Pretty cool, huh? Is he better then you yet? Do not be surprised if it happens. Somewhere between 16-19 he will loose interest and will return in his late 20's.

Did it to my dad, gonna watch it happen to me next.

Not necessarily. ;) Todays teens have much more challenging work at school, and I can attest to this from personal experience. I got started in R/C 6 years ago (without an R/C enthusiast dad, just a supportive one of any airplane related hobby :D), and now, as a sophomore in college, I very rarely get a chance to build or fly. [:o] I have never lost my interest for R/C as I went through my teen years. Not a matter of not enough interest, just not enough time.

(Ok, ok I'll admit girls were and still are a big distraction, but my girlfriend is very supportive of my addiction! :))

YNOT Like I said I soloed about a week ago and am new to this but, yes he is already better than me. I came in too hot on my first landing and bent nose gear. Not any real damage. Second landing much better but still a little hard. Ben touched it down like a pro three times. when we got ready to come home he wiped down with windex and towels. I had to straighten nose gear before wiping down. But any time I don't need a sack to bring my plane home it's been a good day

Pilot Chad, Its a private field here in Fayette Al. Good east/west and north/south runway and owner keeps it mowed pretty close. Closest AMA field is about 45 minute from here. This field is about 5 min so a group of us fly here a good bit

Abell,
Well then, like father like son huh?? Is he a grinning too?? Why do I even ask?? I know he is. Tell him this is the kind of addiction we like to see our kids have!!

Please give him this from the Staff and Administration of RCU.

Congratulations to both of you, what a great accomplishment.
I wish I could get my daughters interested but it seems that is not going to happen.
