During my lunch break, I decided to take five minutes and fly my Hasbro Power Air Surfer around my back yard. I had some good altitude going and was looking forward to a nice long glide. Unfortunately, that's about the same time the wind picked up. I desperately tried to lose some altitude and keep it within the vicinity of my house, but if you have ever flown one of these, you know what a dismal lack of control they posess. By the time I got to a manageable height, the wind had carried it over the woods behind my house, and was too strong for any hope of returning to my yard. I made a valiant dash though the woods, over a fence, and outran a pair of rabid Doberman Pincers ... well, acutally only one, and he's 14 years old, and is lame -- a real sweetheart, though. I hopped another fence, sprinted down a driveway and arrived at the next street -- but nothing. No sign of the aircraft. I lost sight of it trouncing through the woods. I buzzed the motors a few times hoping I could catch a hint of that faint hum, but to no avail. My airplane was gone.

Fly in uncontroled area and you will have fly away. There many aircraft on the same Frec. that can interfere with your radio. that they do not recomend flying with in 3 miles of clube field. lucky you did not crash near you or crash a plane at near club site ingering some one.

I wasn't too concerned about that. It's a lightweight foam toy. With the motors off, it's got about zero airspeed. I forget the frequency, but it's not the on the standard aircraft frequencies. And there's no flying fields nearby. Too densely populated. You do have a point, though. I suppose even a harmless piece of styrofoam could hurt someone.

I believe 27mhz, pretty safe to say no one at a flying field is generally on that freq, more likely a radio control car though...

anyway, it happens to everything occassionally, either it flys away, or plants itself, things happen.

If you are looking for another plane and want to get into the hobby, might I suggest a sky scooter... (Check out ezonemag.com for good electric forums) It is good electric to start on and does have standard equipment that can be used in other models.

Well, I've got a Global Superfly I recieved as a gift a few years ago but have never flown. I've cleaned it up and given it a thourough going over. Now I'm just waiting for decent weather and time to fly. Both fairly easy to come by, unless you want them at the same time. :D

I also took a quick look at my old Midwest Aerolectric, flown once -straight into a tree. At the time I considered it totalled, but the wing and everthing on the fuse aft of the wing saddle is is good condition. I think it may be reapairable.

For my next kit, was looking at the Sig Senior, but I've been hearing a lot of good things about the BTE Flying King. Before that, though, I think I may pick up a GWS Tiger Moth the play in the schoolyards with.

Check the Superfly engine rails for upthrust!!! I've seen at least two of them that were impossible to trim and flew like crap. Once it was noticed that the engine rails actually were manufactured with upthrust in them, and the situation was corrected (washers under the rear engine screws)...they tamed right down and flew like a dream!

How do I check for upthrust?

And I've always wondered, why is downthrust is necessary?
