11x5 Prop Same Size As 11x6
Hi Guys,
I decided to change the stock prop on my Nexstar and something is going on.. The stock Nexstar prop clearly reads 11x5 on it. I got a 11x6 APC sport prop and it is the same size as the 11x5. The pitch and the diameter of the prop is exactly the same. What's going on? |

Hmm.. You sure? Sometimes it is hard to tell the difference in pitch only one number up or down--- an 11x5 and 11x6 always look pretty similar to me

This one test you can do.
Check your rpm with each props installed in the engine and if the rpm decreases when you put in the new prop then it is not the same prop if the rpm remains the same at full throttle then it is the same size prop. What kind of trouble are you having. zain |

Hi!
Strange??? How do you know they are then same size? Have you checked with a Prather pitch meter? /Jan K |
RE: 11x5 Prop Same Size As 11x6
Unless they are BOTH the same mfg and model of prop then you are comparing apples to oranges. Different mfg may measure pitches differently (different points on the blade) and the blade shapes are also different.
Zain's method will also only work if the blade shapes/thicknesses/stiffness are the same. Otherwise we're back to apples/oranges. |
