problems with the jr quatro system

Hey, i bought a JR quattro 4ch system in the winter, and have been flying with it for about a month. just the other day, i noticed something horribly wrong when i turned my plane on.....the controlls would just randomly glitch (kinda like it was having a seizure). i then quickly turned the system off. i checked the plane and the tx out and found nothing to be wrong (batteries were fully charged and working) i turned the model on again, and the problem went away.......kinda weird eh? i then discovered that when i turned the model off the throttle was in the closed position, and when i went to turn the model on, i noticed that i must have bumped the throttle stick to half. sooooo....i moved the throttle to closed and turned the plane on, everything works perfectly (i did range check), and when i turn the plane off, and move the sticks to a different position and turn the plane on, the glitching happens.
have any of you guys heard of this, or am i the one in a million guys that this happens to. i did contact JR and they never heard of this happening, or any other places i called. i ruled out the servos and the flight pack, b/c im using them with a futaba radio and reciever and everything works perfectly.
right now, im a little hesitant of sending my radio in, b/c its going to cost me $50 to send it, and it will be gone for a month. i would just use the system ive got now, but im moving to alberta in the middle of june, so i will be out of a radio. is there some way to fix this, or should i buy a new system?
any input would be greatly appreciated.
thx,
andrew66

RE: problems with the jr quatro system

andrew66, are you following the correct procedure for turning your model on ? Transmitter on first, followed by the model?
2:- was your transmitter close to something metalic , like your car? This can create a shadow bounce of the signal and will cause your servos to bounce.
3:- Sometimes when your transmitter is lying on the grass, this will cause tremors in the servos as well , if conditions are right, but this rarely happens.
Other than the above, that i have had happen to me in the past , i cant help you . Maybe someone else will have experienced this problem and will be able to help you .
Hope you get it sorted out, and have many happy hours of flying
Bill

You also don't want to be too close to the receiver. The signal can "swamp" the receiver with too much power and cause strange behavior. Stand back @ 4 feet and try it. You don't fly standing next to it.

RE: problems with the jr quatro system

i've tried turning the system on with an assistant standing away from the model and as far as location of the plane in relation to cars and whatnot, it doesnt matter. but i did some more experimenting, and found that it like to do it more with a full charge, than with a slightly lower charge. (i am following the correct proceedure of turning the radio on, and then the model). i just wish there was an easy way to test another reciever on this system, so i can rule one or the other out.
would it be worth paying $50 for a hitec 8ch reciever to try it out? or should i swap crystals (still would be paying at least $40 for crystals) and try someone elses reciever?

Andrew,
I have never seen a JR system, but it sounds like it does the same thing as my Airtronics RD6000. If I turn the transmitter on with the throttle anywhere above idle it won't turn on the transmitter circuits until you return the stick to idle. It sounds like that's what's happening with yours. Check your manual and see if your radio has that safety feature.

Hope this helps

Ken

RE: problems with the jr quatro system

andrew66, Bill here again. I have contacted our technician for JR Radios here in Australia, and explained your problem to him. {Idid this because i also use JR Radios} He informed me that sometimes during manufacture of these parts, a film will develop on the pins of the plugs. To clean them , just simply pull out each and every plug, and replace them . Do this , one plug at a time, in and out 3 or 4 times . All plugs that go into the receiver and any other plugs you may have , do them all. This will clear any film that may have been on the plugs, causing an arcing, which will make the servos respond as you described.
Hope this simple test will fix your problem.
Best regards , Bill , from down-under

Before you do, do yourself a favour and buy a can of [link=http://www.crcindustries.com/ei/content/prod_detail.aspx?S=Y&PN=02016]this[/link] first. After you've disassembled and checked all the connectinos, spray (sparingly) on all the pins on the receiver and servo/switch/extension terminations prior to reconnection. Don't forget the switch slider itself and battery junction.

Also, particularly if you're using an R700 RX, remove the RX crystal, and give the pins a light spray before replacing. Doesn't hurt to remove and give the TX crystal a spray as well. And it's a good cleaner for the TX aerial too. All our TX only output a pithy signal, so it's important the aerial be kept clean.

For a good contact cleaner/protection system, try this product line. Hard to beat.
