Mode 1?

What is meant by "Mode 1"? I see it referenced here occasionally but it's not in the RCU glossary.

There are actually four "stick modes" but modes 1 and 2 most widely used. Mode 3 is a left-handed version of Mode 2 and Mode 4 is a left-handed version of Mode 1.
