sig lt 40
Does anyone know for sure if the Sig LT 40 is a bolt on wing or a rubber band wing? I have heard both and seen both in pics and discussion.
Thanks! |
RE: sig lt 40
I purchased a Sig LT-40 ARF last spring (February or March) and I received the bolt on wing. I have had no problems with it and it came with nylon bolts which I have been told are better than metal bolts.

I don't recommend converting to bolts. If you do so, look out for clearance between the threaded blocks and the aileron links. Also, reinforce the wing where you put the bolts. Dunno about the ARF version, but the kit wing is rubber band mounted.

I converted my wing to bolt on after finishing my wings training but left the original parts intact so that rubber bands could still be used instead. Nylon bolts are better than metel. Metel bolts can vibrate loose during flight. Nylon are vibration resistant and hang in there. Found this out on my First ARF. which was a H( Cherokee. After 3 flights I would have to retighten the mounting bolts. Got fed up and added blind nuts to fit 10-32 nylon bolts. No problems with bolts coming loose after that. :D

ORIGINAL: Scar As designed, the wing is mounted with rubber bands. If you've seen a bolt-on, it's a conversion. I do belive that the kit version is banded, and the ARF is bolted.... but I could be wrong. |
RE: sig lt 40
My LT-40 ARF from Tower came with wing bolts. The only one that I have seen using rubber bands was an older kit built.

RE: sig lt 40
I got an ARF (not from tower) and it has a bolt on wing. From what I've seen, the kits are attached with rubber bands and the ARFs use nylon bolts

RE: sig lt 40
Not true. The LT40 ARF's that are presently being manufactured come from the factory with a bolt on wing, and have been for a while now. The kit version is still built with a rubber band wing, though.

RE: sig lt 40
ORIGINAL: Scar As designed, the wing is mounted with rubber bands. If you've seen a bolt-on, it's a conversion. Band on is preferable during ab initio training. The argument about nylon or metal bolts is academic. I've yet to see a prang - and I've seen more than a 'few' - where nylon wing bolts will sheer before they rip themselves and their mount out of the fuselage, or out of the fractured mounting holes in the wing itself. Nylon is stronger and more elastic than either balsa and liteply. An worthwhile concept poorly executed but successfully reinforced through persuasive marketing. |
