My First ever flight !!!!!

Hi all, i think this is the best forum for this,

Today was finally perfect for flighting my Wing dragon sportster (begin air in other parts), after purchasing it in winter and never flown fixed wing before...(apart from FMS sim)

So off to the rugby pitches i went, nerves janglying, ready to throw a few £££ into the air.

The first launch after the preflight check (i fly heli normally,so im used to preflights;)), half power, straight hand launch.....................nose dive, hmmmm, reset wing

Second launch, 3/4 power, started to dip alittle, but with alittle up elevator. off she went, gentle laps twice, then a gentle belly flop which caught a wing and very gently rolled nose over into the grass, with throttle off

Third launch, same as before fly the last of the battery out and gently landed after a couple of faster laps and the figure eights, and evn low fly bys :D

The only questions is, after the third very gentle landing, i went to check the controls, but nothing, reset and tried again (servos did twitch to centre), so the first thought was id damaged the electronics (somehow?)........so i let the battery cool down (it was getting very warm), and retryed, all movement returned to servos, had i drained the battery that much ?
But still a very good first flight !!!!

Also whats considered a good range? i flew to around 700ft radius, on the last two laps the motor glitched a little, was this due to battery power running low maybe (it was its first real discharge)

any advice would be really welcome..
cheers Shmokinmonki

What motor, battery pack, speed controller combo are you using? If the speed controller overheats or overamps it wil cut out power to the motor. I have not heard of one cutting out power to the controls though unless the voltage was really low.

RE: My First ever flight !!!!!

from the flight time i had and the heat the battery was emitting (ni-mh 1000Mah ,stock) I think it was just very low then......
the motor and esc is all stock, with it being the later W-dragon sportster i think it has the higher 370(?) motor...

As soon as the battery recovered a little, they normally "bounce back" a little when theres no drain, so probably why the servos and motor where working ok, five minutes after cooling? im recharging the battery again tonight and going at it again tommorow (im off work for once in this fine uk weather)

I must admit i did push the battery a little for a maiden voyage, but she did forgive me by returning in one peace (twice !!!!)

I must admit the 4 channels were not as hard to figure as i thought they would but i did prepare with my "aero ace"(2 channel), and ive also got a microlight (2 channel, which works the same as the aero ace, but alot bigger), it at least got used to "towards wind/away wind flying", 4 channels was the right choice for me as i do pick things up very quickly, but i will add that im sticking with this high wing trainer electric until im happy/bored (delete as required)

Then ill find a club and a nice scale plane, and learn to fly that with them.

I must admit im lucky to find a good flight area clear from anyone (especially kids) and roads and houses, to learn on my own, and yes i know its not the best method ,but hell its fun and cheap enough introduction, so atleast my LHS will be happy, another one sucked into RC'ing
