Engine thrust vs airplane weight
 

If I have a sport type plane that weighs ten pounds and an engine that produces ten pounds of thrust, will it just fly OK or will it have unlimited vertical? How do you relate how much engine thrust you need for a given plane weight? Do you need a pound of thrust for each pound of weight? Thanks for any advice.

plane will fly fine on even a smaller amount of thrust,unlimited you'll need 1 1/2 to 2 pounds of thrust to a pound of plane

an airplane will fly on the wing with half thrust to weight 10lb
plane 5 pounds thrust no real reserve 1 to 1 if the prop is unloading it will continue to climb vertical until the air density
won't let it 11/2 to 1 unlimited 2 to 1 unlimited and excelerating.
in the real world most planes not some experimental that somebody stuffed a big motor in most are about .6 to 1
