Fitting first cowl - Spacewalker

I was trying to find a how-to article about trimming and fitting a fiberglass cowl. Do you know of one? Is this a free hand type deal? Also what dremel bit do I use to cut? Thanks! Almost done...

one more thing when you cut/drill your cowl start small and enlarge the holes slowly my favorite tool for this is a rat tail file then you can keep the hole round and can adjust for the best fit the cardboard transfer method works well but its never perfect and a slight adjustment is always necessary. slowly is the mantra for cutting your cowl just keep checking the cowl on the plane for fit and dial it in

I use the method described by RCKen and have had no problems. As bigtim said, start small and work your way out. I normally use pointed stones and a sanding drum (be careful with the drum or you can take off a lot VERY fast ) in the Dremel.

Great. It's coming along. I used a cutting bit to take out sections, and then used a sanding bit to finish.

My exhaust pipe is withing 1/4 inch of the cowl in places. Will the cowl burn from the heat? Should I coat the inside of the cowl with something to protect from heat in these places?

Also, when using those quick fill fuel valves, do you drill hole in the cowl to mount, or do you fab up a mount and screw to the firewall? I am not good with metal. If you must create a mount for this, is there something I can buy or use from the hardware store for this? What other creative ways can you mount this fuel valve?

Thanks!

Should be in the air in the next day or so!!!!!
