Has anyone used Real Flight Generation2? If so how close is it to really flying an RC plane? Was it worth the money? What do you think of it? What are the limitations/problems?

I had Realflight deluxe and just purchased G2. IMO they are great products and will help you become a better pilot. The one issue I don't really care for is when I'm landing, you have to hit a key to look down and find the damn runway. It doesn't show you the strip until your plane is pretty low.

Do you HAVE to land on the runway? I mean if you are in a field with a strip and fairly well cut grass shouldn't you be able to land on the grass as well? I know we'd all like to hit the runway all the time but whatever will be will be.

You can land it on the grass but some of the airfields have targets in the yard. Hay, tires, rocks , trees, etc... In G2 you can edit all the junk in or out.

Realflight 2 though my grandson to the point when going to the club field with an instructor he managed to solo in 1 hour and 15 minutes. The instructor told him you realy don't need me.

G2 is only limited to your P.C.
It will sharpen your thumbs and keep your mind working. It will be hard to land until you get used to the setting . Flight instructor is great help for newbies, nav.guide gives speed, alt. lower #9 on board. Great support on net and at GP. Don't waste it capabilties.

Antwon: Since you are having trouble finding the runway when you are trying to land, go to the options at the top of G2 and find the VIEW tab. When you are under that, make sure you select Look at Ground. After that, the ground will be in your view all of the time just like it is when you are flying the real models.

Thanks! I've seen that there before and assumed it was associated with the 'down arrow' brief glimpse at the ground so I never tried it.

I think G2 is dead nuts acccurate to flying the real thing. the only real difference is your perspective and field of view limitations since you are looking at a computer screen. It will give you a solid base and you will be way ahead of the game when you go out for instructor night.

I think anyone learing to fly should spend a month on the sim first. Practice landing over and over. THen try all the things you would be afraid to try at the field. I can hover now just because of RF.

g2 is the best thing since sliced bread. i've NEVER flown a real r/c airplane.i've been flying G2 since xmas 2002.every once in a wile,i host the multiplayer room.people can't tell the difference.this sim is the best.

Ive been up w/a trainer 4 times and just got G2,I set up a plane to the specs of my seniorita and I cant tell the differance other than its warmmer in here.

Well i haven't tried any of the RF series but i have used fms quite a bit. I used it for about a month or 2 and then went solo with my lazy bee with no help from instructors, i did have some dodgy first landings but after a few flights i worked it out and i haven't crashed yet. So i would highly recomend fms
