How to fix a slight warp in elevator?

I have a H9 Pulse XT 40 and in putting it together I have a slightly warped elevator. The elevator is in two pieces. One elevator is fine, nice and flat “On glass” the other is maybe ¼ inch off. I can push on the elevator and the piece goes flat meaning a slight warp. Can I fix this??----any how-to’s would be great.

Thanks stashu

Stashu,
You can straighten it out, but you're going to need a completely flat surface to do it on. If you have a mirror you can use that would be good because glass is usually completely flat. Anyway, wet the wood of the elevator, lay it on your flat surface, cover it with a sheet of plastic (so the water won't soak into the next layer), and then lay a stack of books on top of the plastic sheet. Now leave it there until the wood is completely dry. When you take the elevator out of the stack it should be flat now.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply!!-----The elevator is already covered in monokote-ARF--I don't think I can wet the wood??

thanks Stashu

Stashu,
Sorry, I thought the elevator was just bare wood. To use the first tip that I gave you will need to strip the monokote off for that to work. There is something else you can try first before you go to the extreme of stripping the covering off. Use a heat iron (the same that is used for covering) and use it to heat the elevator. Put the elevator on a flat surface and heat it. You'll want heat that is a little below the temp that the covering shrinks at. Heat the elevator and press down on the warp at the same time. You'll have to work on it for a bit because it won't happen immediately, if it does help. Keep this up until you can't get the warp to change anymore, or you have removed the warp. If that doesn't help then go to the first tip I posted.

Hope this helps

A 1/4" warp in the elvator is easily fixed. No need to send it back.

Stashu, when you apply heat to the surface, set it up so you are applying opposite warp. As you reshrink (slightly) the covering, it can return to a straight alignment.
