Old Is New
 

Okay, so I used to go by the name B816. That hearkened back to my motorcycle days, but since I'm in a new arena, and since I've got a new attitude, I figured in with the new, out with the old.

Anyhow, you may recall that I picked up a beater trainer and was attempting to learn myself into the sky. Well, I had one failed attempt, followed by a second, more bizarre outing. I work in an industrial park that butts up against a residential area. Thinking that I'd be better protected against the wind, I tried to fly it between our building the one next door, which is about 100 yards away. At takeoff, all seemed to be going well until I got above building level at which the wind took control. The wind heaved my plane towards the aforementioned residential area where the plane slammed into the top of someone's shed, killing their sunbathing cat, and lighting the shed on fire. The owner of the house, in an attempt to save his cat, suffered minor burns over his hands and arms. While responding to the fire, the local fire department damaged another homeowner's Cadillac Escalade. I have retained the services of a lawyer, and am now being sued for approximately $110M. How on earth did it come to this?

Okay, so none of that is true past the word "second"........gotcha!

In reality, the second attempt did not go well either, and no, I did not attempt to fly it between two buildings or near a residential area. But, I did finally learn a lesson. Realizing that I was not only up against myself, but also (perhaps) up against someone else's not-so-friendly-flyer, I decided to start fresh and have ordered a Tower Trainer. My electronics and engine will fit fine, and I also ordered a CG tool in an effort to set it up as well as I can, although I know the finished product will need to be fully inspected by a seasoned flyer before being considered airworthy. I've also obtained a sim, and have been diligently playing with that, although I know that's no substitute for actual tutelage.

I looked around here on the site, and could not find a club, or a field in the Toledo, OH area. Any thoughts or leads on an instructor nearby would be helpful also. I have an Airtronics 4 channel, if that makes any difference instructor-wise.

I figured there was something fishy about that second flight- you didn't mention the SPCA having you face jail time for Caticide.

there are at least 6 clubs within 25 miles of Toledo's zip code.

If you were flying a standard gloe trainer and the shed caught on fire , then you were using the wrong fuel, or some very flammable fumes were coming out of the shed!![8D]

ahh, the aforementioned troll returns. I told ya so just doesn't quit cut it but you were to busy tell us off and just wanting to have fun. I'm really not trying to be a jerk but people like you tick me off quicker than anything. I hope the guy sues ya. That was competely F$%^ed

I don't recall telling anyone off before. And yes, I did and still do want to have fun with it. And, no, there's nobody to sue me. Geez. Read it again. If you look closely, you'll see that the above adventure didn't really happen at all. It makes me wonder if you were really paying attention to what I wrote before, because you sure didn't pay attention to what I wrote this time.

LOL. Red, I have to tell you....you pulled a good one on me. For the life of me, I could not figure out what your problem was. Glad to see you were just giving me the business.

Came to my senses, indeed. Looks like the Flying Tigers area. I'm going to go check out their field this weekend.
