First Solo - Solo
 

Well guys I got down to the field yesterday and found I was the only one there. So it was time for my first solo - solo with my Weston Cougar. The first time I had none of my buddy's there "just in case". Although I had a few solos under my belt it was pretty windy but I felt pretty confident and went for it. A whole new experience that strong wing but it went well and I ran tank after tank through it and managed some loops rolls and had a go at some stall turns.

I flew until I lost the light and went home with a big smile on my face. Woke up this morning, not a breath of wind and blue sky.

Guess where I'm going????!!!!

Just can't wait to be good enough to fly something low wing and scale.

Congrats on the solo. It's a great feeling isn't it??? And don't worry, that silly little smile will go away in a few weeks!!!!!!

A solo flight is a great accomplishment and that wins you one genuine RCU ATTABOY (Suitable for framing, wrapping fish, or lining trashcans).

Just need to hone those skills some more. I have a Hangar 9 Pulse XT on the way so when I'm ready its low wing trainer time.

Hey, you gotta do it some time or other.

As for the smile lasting a few weeks. Yeah, but......

When you notice it fading, finish up a new airplane, and it'll come right back. Sometimes all it takes is just going flying. Some guys never stop smiling..... well..... as long as they ain't at work or some other superfluorious, annoying interruption to our valuable flying time.

Gongrats. Keep practicing and smiling. I fly my P-51 inverted at 5' off the deck with a big 'ol smile while the guys are croaning and awestruck. Don't stop smiling when you have your first crash either. It will happen at some point. I practice all kinds of flight failures on my simulator constantly to help me evade a bad situation at the field. Good luck.

im about to order an alpha 40 RTF. i hope my experience is as good as yours. my first flight ever was by myself and i had it up for about 5 minuites and the electric trainer became best friends with the ground after meeting it so roughly :D

Well guys I had a surprise at the field yesterday. On landing my weston Cougar after some more practice. My flying buddy invited me over as he was flying his 1.6m 540 Edge.


Buddy - "How doing you fancy doing few gentle circuits with the Edge??"

Me - "Err.....Errr....are you sure?"

Buddy - "Yeah I'm sure. I think you can do it. It's on low rates no big deal"


So he hands me the transmitter and stays close! and I fly four circuits. Nothing special. Then I hand over the transmitter with a big smile on my face!!!



A little while later my flying buddy lands, refuels, starts the Edge back up and hands me the transmitter!!!


Buddy - "There ya go now take off fly four circuits and land it"

Me - "Hey Phil I can't do that!!

Buddy - "Sure you can"


So he explains to me the differences I will notice. The weight, the more throttle and airspeed required for take off etc...... and before I know it I have performed a beautiful smooth takeoff flown four circuits, done three passes to get used to the approach and then greased a landing!!!


I stood there in the field... speechless. Then I started to jump around like a kid.


Now I have still got a lot to learn about this hobby but yesterday my confidence went through the roof. Now I want a Yak or a 540!!!


One step at a time.......................!!!

They have this same combo in a Yak 54 or a SU 31 too. They are in New Zealand but are shipping these combos for free worldwide if I read the ad correctly. These aren't exactly beginner planes but they sure look like a good deal.:)
