Balancing

Hi,

I understand the CG. I also understand there is another balance procedure to perform but I lost that info. What is it called and how do you do it? If memory serves me I think you pick up the plane by the prop?

Thanks

The other procedure is lateral balance. Looking for one wing heavier than the other. Pick the plane up by the nose (maybe where the prop came into your thinking) and the tail and see if one wing tip drops. Add weight to the lite side till it's level.

YMMV

Thank you:)

Do I add the weight to the Lighter Wing itself or the fuse?

When grabbing the tail, make sure it is along the thrust line, or in other words as if the prop shaft went straight through the tail.

If possible add it as far out on the wing tip as you can. This way it will take less weight to achieve the balance. This in one reason to do a preliminary balance when building a kit BEFORE covering. Fully assemble the plane (remember the muffler) except for the covering and balance so you will have full access for adding weight. Usually you will not have to add additional weight after covering, at least not laterally unless you go wild with decals. :D
