Just an added comment and observation;

I too am a self-taught R/C flier getting back into it for many years away. Yes, you will make a few crashes and many learn from those. I started with rubber power and then control line, then R/C. There are people that will crash them all the time and never learn but are determine to stay with it. This is a sport/hobby of many physical and mental demands, as well as some laws of physics and if not learned properly you gather bad habits that are hard to break (hopefully not unsafe ones). It will just take you longer (and more $$$ and time) to achieve your goals -- like anything else you learn, whether you're spoon-fed and do it on your own from reading and watching others and asking alot of questions at the field.

This thread should not get outta hand for we need to focus on what others really want to post as far as value-added material, this however is not. Just wanted to post my 2 cents worth.

Hello,

About 2 and a hlf years ago, i got a flight sim 2000 for my birthday. i learned to fly on the sim. About 2 months after i got the sim, my dad and i saw an article in the paper for a garage sale with an airplane. my dad and i went to check it out. (We had no R/C experience, just Control line) We though it was a good deal. We bought it for 25 bucks. I was flying the plane buy myself on my first flight. (I needed help taking off and landing.) On that same day, i learned to take off and land by myself. That was the only day that i flew with that R/C instructer. Then my R/C instructer wanted to take the plane off again and he just got into the air and tryed spinning it around. It was about 5 feet off the ground and didn't make it. the plane fell and he said the plane was too squirrely. I dunno why he said that, i could fly the plane just fine. I never saw that guy after that flight ever again.

Thought i could share a story.

I think many of us have had bad experiences with instructors. I learned from about half a dozen different guys (it just kinda depended on who was at the field and given day) and one gentlemen crashed my trainer and didn't even walk out with me to collect the pieces.
I would just recommend watching your could be instructor fly before they take you up and make sure they know what they are doing first. My plane was fixable, but it ended a perfect day to get some stick time.
