Almost ready to fly....... Ummm again
Putting the final touches on my Hobico Superstar 40 "rebuild" The plane suffered what appeared to be a tip stall on its 12th take-off.
I salvaged the what seemed like hundereds of pieces and began rebuilding it... Decided to go back with a new color scheme this time  Take a look at the pics of my first covering job...... http://www.upstate-web.com/RC/1s.jpg Close up of Nose, named after my son..... http://www.upstate-web.com/RC/2s.jpg Changed the wing to, took all of the covering off and went back white with this orange arrow onder one side. http://www.upstate-web.com/RC/3s.jpg Anybody wanna help me test some radios :stupid: http://www.upstate-web.com/RC/4b.jpg Putting this one together for my father-in-law. http://www.upstate-web.com/RC/5s.jpg Thought this was a very cool paper weight.. Going to mount it for my desk at work. http://www.upstate-web.com/RC/6s.jpg Hope to be flying this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ben in SC |

Sorry to hear your plane crashed. :( Maybe it was radio related? I have that same trainer that I use to experiment with. When I lift off it's at close to flying speed. I burn up close to 75 feet before I trim it to rotate back. So far no problems and it flies great. The next step is reducing the dihedral ;) |
Almost ready to fly....... Ummm again
I plan to reduce the dihedral in mine as well, I dont think it was radio related but it is possible. When this plane is stripped to bare wood there really isnt much to it.
I recovered the whole plane in Ultra-Coat which I think looks better than the original. What engine do you have on yours? I am runing a OS46 and it is pretty fast, much faster than another guy at our field with a 40. Ben |

I had to recover that because the thing came to me in such bad condition. Since I put it together,TH considered it used and would not let me return it so it got the tape job :D TH is a nice place and have everything you ever will need but next week i'm getting my 5th plane but i'm going to spend a few $$$$ more and buy from a local hobby shop. I run the OS 40 on this one. Strange that with a bigger engine you wiped out on take off> BTW,What size prop are you using? GL on the nexr take off :) |
Almost ready to fly....... Ummm again
Whirley,
I am running an 11X6 on the OS46. I was able to get in 3 flights today but the wind started getting up around 15mph and my engine wasnt running worth a crap (2 dead sticks  ) but all in all a fairly good re-debut for the SS40. The new one I built for my father-in-law must have had a weak tail fin as it broke off on taxi :stupid: . Better then than in flight eh? Well a quick repair of it tonight and it will go up tommorow afternoon. Ben |

We had wind here all day. Didn't even pay to think of flying.. Don't call yourself stupid. Find out what happened. On another post someone was biulding a plane and said that he glued the fin but it was still loose. Someone told him to beef it up another way but I asked to move the fin and see if he can see if the glue did not take hold or was the tail section flexing Info like that is what I like to see but I never received a response. Well, I'm on my way to building up the 1/3 scale PITTS starting in about three weeks. Just have to find out what the best servos are. BTW, Ever find out why the engine decided to dead stick on the to flights? Sometimes it pays to keep em in range huh?? |
Almost ready to fly....... Ummm again
Im having a tough time getting this OS 46LA tuned. I thought I had it dialed in fairly well the on the last flight today the engine just wasnt making any power above 3/4 throttle. So I brought it in, as I throttled down to lad the engine all of a sudden picked back up? Im not sure what was causing it ut will run back through it in the morning.
I have a ASP 46 on the other trainer and it is running great. This is a two needle carb which I like better. May have to switch to another engine if this one doesnt even out. Ben |

Ben Could be a glow plug acting or maybe the fuel system needs a good cleaning up. Flush the tank and lines. Use new fuel to flush the engine and some of that canned air they sell at staples to blow it clean. Actually it's 134-a thats used in car A/C units but as long as the can don't say 134-a you can vent all you want. Go figure that one. TH came out with a new trainer with that OS 46. I have one here and it runs like a raped ape. I guess the OS 40 was just a bit to small for the giant flat bottom wings. They are fun and for $300.00 you get everything and some others who can't afford to spend big $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ on the scale birds can still have fun. Gotta give a lot of credit to the Little Lady here. She spent over $2,000.00 on my R/C toys since mid November but as a Certified Nurse She can afford it :D So I retired early. :D Someone has to keep the big birds up during the week Keep me informed on that OS 46 and let me know if you ever find the bug. You may want to put some triangle stop on the tail of you plane, not to hard to cover and a whole lot stronger.
