Ok I bought a student Tx and it doesnt have a battery or a crystal. But when I put everything from my main Tx it works. My question is do I need a battery in the student Tx when I connect it to the Trainner Tx? Please help this is holding me back from the freedom of flight.

With JR radios the buddy box has to have a charged battery in it. It doesn't need the crystal (in fact it's probably better if you don't have one in it). You don't turn on the buddy box as it will come on when you plug the buddy box in to the trainer radio.

That charged battery in the student box could be a nine volt carbon-Zinc battery.
