formula for finding CG on planes

hello all and thank you in advance for the help. i have been told that there is a formula for figuring out where the CG of a plane should be and i cant seem to find it anywhere. does anyone know what i am talking about ? and where i might be able to find it ? i have 2 planes i need to use it with before i can fly them, again thanks for your time.

Yep, the rule of thumb to start with is 25%-30% of the wing chord. Of course various wings may be different, but on trainers the CG is usually around the location of the wing spars.

another old trick and it seems to work great is the string plum bob
method pick the plane up with a string one end on the crank shaft one end on the verticle stab(say thru a hinge) now take this
and hang it up by this now one piece of string like a hook in the cieling move the string back and forth until the plane is level like in flight then hang a plum bob from the hook it will piont to where the cg is surpose to be.

But always remember. " A nose heavy plane flies poorly, but a tail heavy plane flies once".
