Stick and tissue models, Where to buy?
 

When I started this hobby it was with a gift from my grandfather. I got a stick and tissue Piper Cub with maybe an 18 inch wingspan. It took several weeks to complete using Ambroid glue. I think I could get one done now in a couple of hours using CA. I would like to start my son in planes and I think these would be the perfect thing. I did a quick search of the internet, but I can't seem to find anything like that available.

On the bottom left is a "locate a hobby shop" link or I beleive that you can also order them directly. The flying models are all designed as rubber or glow free flight but most would be an easy conversion to RC.

Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for. I don't have any intention on RCing them.. maybe a little rubber free flight but that's all. This is mainly nostalgia for me and learning for my son... They say minimum age is 10... phooy.. I'll have him covered in balsa dust and CA by the time he's 5.

Coolbean, is see we live kind of close together! Hobby Lobby (craft chain store) carries some of those models...at least the at the Lee's Summit store does.

I work downtown and aparantly Hobby Haven at 111th carries them. They pretty much closed all the hobby lobbys in the northland (where i live)

Sig ,Makes Some free flight with, Rubber Motor, Kits. With those kits you have the option, to put a small, Glow engine on it.You can do that with Guillows kits too,but ,I`ve never had good luck flying with them,Wrecked them all.Very nice displays though.The Sig kits Are great flyers though.Just another option..I can personaly tell you, that, the Cabinaire, and Tiger, that I gave my young nephews, were a big HIT ,with them. http://www.sigmfg.com go in there Click" Airplanes"then click "FF BIY Airplane Kits" you`ll find them.Just bellow those menus ,Check ,out ,the Herr Enginering, FF BIY Kits too.Haven`t built them, but have heard ,good things ..

coolbean, If you have a HobbyTown USA anywhere close to you they may have a good selection of those Guillows models on hand. We have a new HobbyTown here, been open about a year now & they have a great selection of them. I did a little Hellcat of theirs just for fun & practice. They're still only from 8 to 12 bucks too. I also believe I saw some at Tower Hobbies. I did, just checked, it looks like they carry the entire line for both Dumas & Guillows. Starting at $7.99 all the way up to $65 depending on what you want & how big. You can check free-flight kits-rubberband powered in both scale & sport & bring up pages of those little kit planes. Believe it or not, but they sell them in a gift store at disney's California Adventure. Thats where I bought my guillows cesna 180 for $8 I think.
