Goldberg Eagle 2 ARF trainer?????
 

Can anyone tell me about the Goldberg Eagle 2 ARF trainer? Is it a good plane to start with?

seems ok but i would go with the hobbico superstar rtf.

The Eagle 2 is an outstanding trainer. Also, the Hobbico trainer that AirforceRks mentioned is good too. Either one will do you well.

Yes, it's excellent.

I've been buddy-boxing a guy who has one. He put an OS46AX in it. His Eagle2 is about the best flying trainer of all that I'm flying with students right now. And he's doing very, very good with it.

The only trainer type ARF that I've seen recently that matches up to it, is the KYOSHO Calmato high wing. Truth is, there doesn't seem to be anything magic about either plane's design. They both just happen to have the lightest wing loading and both have 46AXs on them. The Calmato was $105 at the LHS.

About the only thing different between the two is the landing gear. The Eagle had wire and it was constantly bending. I replaced the main with an aluminum replacement one. Think it was a H9 for $10. The Calmato came with a decently strong aluminum main.

The eagle is a excellent trainer, it lands so slow, it just floats. Mine has been around for several years with a os 40. If you fly off grass go with bigger wheels.

The Eagle 2 is great!! I have owned mine for about three months now and learned to fly on my own! I did have quite a few "bounce and gos" before I figured out the landing techniques!! Just last weekend, I added a set of Greatplanes 40-60 floats and and have several water flights under my belt. The plane handles well and is very predictable even with the addition of the floats. I am using a Thunder Tiger Pro 46 engine which is also superb!

The Eagle 2 is a very good trainer. You will learn a lot from it.

My step son flies a Kit built Eagle II with an OS FS 40..
It's a great trainer.

Ahhh.... I have a 16 year old O.S. 40 Goldberg Eagle that once was a kit. I'm currently recovering the wings back to it's unpatched days. But here it is last month at my club. There is nothing bad I can think of about this plane, it was the best $250 I ever spent for a plane so far. Very forgiving, takes off grass very well.

I E-mailed Goldberg and they still make the Parts for my "Old Bird," The Eagle II is the same as the Old Eagle kit, just different decals and color/covering. Many people have learned how to fly with this bird, I hope you get it... you will love it indeed, and it looks great in the air.
