Trimming my plane
I need some advice on how inital trimming is done. I haven't worked with a flight instructor, although it would have saved several crashes, but I have managed to fly twice now for ten minutes and land in 5+mph winds with my 11oz foamy. The CG is right and I flipped it over and hung it from the nose and tail, to balance from side to side. How I begin the dynamic trimming in the air? I'm not looking to do barrel rolls and cuban eights, just leisurely fly around without riding the elevator and rudder.

get the plane up to a safe altitude heading in a direction you are comfortable with (I also trim for the speed I'm most comfortable with) Now let go of the sticks and observe does the plane bank left or right if so adust the appropiate trim level a little at a time until the plane is flying wings level. Repeat this process for elevator and rudder. Remember to make minor adjustments also don't let the plane get away from you.
Some planes require different trim settings at different throtle settings if you have a computer radio you can mix in up or down elevator at a given throtle setting. I have a cub that is way overpowered and wants to climb at full power I added a mix that provides down (15%) elevator when the throtle is applied. When you get the plane trimmed land. You can know adjust the control linkage to match the trim settings on your TX. I have found that about 2 full turns on a clevis equal on trim click. You can also eyeball it. Recenter your trims and retest. Good luck a well trimed plane is so much more relaxing to fly then one that is not |

Thanks, I played with the trims a little my last flight out but got a little too absorbed with it a took a nose dive. I don't have mixing capabilites although that sounds like a great help. Should I trim the elevator at full throttle or slow the engine down for level flight?

You may try
I found that having someone click the trims while you fly can be helpful.

As I said with my computer radios I use the mix that way I get level flight at most throtle settings You do have to be carefull that you are paying attention while trimming. Thats why I get the plane up about two mistakes high |
