Need a nice RTF beginner plane
 

Hi all,

I am a newcomer to the RC plane world. I started with a Air Hogs 2 channel fighter plane and I want something better of course.

I have been looking at a Sky Pilot EP-3 3 channel plane. From what I have read on here, this seems like a nice beginner plane. My only concern is the durability. Would this plane be more or less durable than a Firebird Commander 2, Skyfly or a 2 channel plane like a Sky Screamer or similar.

Any other suggestions would appreciated too.

get a 3channel electric RTF like the Hobbico Skyfly. I have one; it's good for training and practice.

Thanks! I actually saw one of these at the LHS and it looked nice. Is there any pros/cons to a single 380 prop engine vs the twin 180 props?

Yeah, to me, hobbico/flyzone has 3 fairly good models (there may be more, i dont know), the ventura, the sky pilot, and the voyager II... i think the ventura may be the best for a beginner (not that i would really know.. im new myself), because the sky pilot seemed a bit more fragile than the ventura. the ventura has a single 380 motor (in reply to your question) as well as the sky pilot, and i think that may be a better approch, but im not really one to be giving that kind of advice.. i acually have a ventura, there is a couple bugs that can be worked out, first of all when you get it take off the nose cone and tighten the motor mount screws, especially after a crash on the nose.. and always make sure you have a fully charged battery.. those 2 things can make things not fun if not taken care of, also make sure is a calm day (aka no wind of course), dont learn that the hard way like i did.. oops

If you really want to learn to fly go with a 40 size glow trainer and join a local club.
You won't have to worry about wind.

I just want something to fly in my back yard. I have about 3 acres of grass lot beside me that I launch rockets and used to fly my cheap toy plane. The Air hogs was fun but I would like something that has a bit more control. I think I will stay away from the Sky Pilot and stay more with the glider looking planes. Should be easier to fix. Just not sure if the twin prop or single prop would be best. I guess the larger single engine would be better than the 2 smaller engines.

Go for the single motor versus the twin. Twins have twice as many parts to break or wear out.

How about the HobbyZone Aerobird xtreme? 3 ch and it is pretty big. I have seen some of these go on Ebay for decent amount and cheaper than new and parts seems to be readily available with the Aerobirds.
