First Timer at Pull-Pull Cable
 

Hey,

I have a Model Tech - Magic 36 with an OS46AX in the front and am going to change the pull-pull rods to pull-pull cable. I have some nylon coated stainless steel wire - 7ply with a breaking strength of 30 lbs (fishing line).

Is 30 lbs enough, or would it snap?

I am using the same line for my pull-pull set up on my warbird build, a Top flight P-47,the cable leader seems plenty strong to me soldered the lines into brass threaded couplers then screwed into ball link couplers, nice and smooth

Stainless steel is extremely hard to solder properly. You can aneal the non threaded end by heating to red hot. Try to not heat the threaded end. Flatten the end and drill a hole only as large as yor leader needs, loop your wire thru a ferrel made of small alum. or brass tube about 1/2 inch long, thru the hole, back thru the ferrel and crimp. Give it a good pull test. 30 lb test is fine; I understand it is tested by dropping a 30 lb weight one foot!

it seemd to work fine for me burned the plastic off with my mini torch, apply flux, insert end into coupler, shove un heated solder into coupler, apply heat. didn't drop 30lb weight LOL, did pull like h*ll on it and it was not coming out, trial and error I guess here is a photo of my yoke for the retractable tail wheel set up.

Hey,

Thanks for the info. Did the pull-pull cable and all went well. I threaded the cable through the end fitting, then crimped it, then wrapped cotton around the whole crimp and applied loctite, then put heat shrink over the hard cotton. The only thing that i shouldve done,but is too late now; i shouldve put the cable through the crimp, then loop it around and go through the crimp again.

The only question i have now is, do you think the end fitting will rotate in the clevis? The cable isnt twisted and i have applied loctite between the clevis and end fitting.
