Sig Somethin Extra questions
 

Hi,

I just purchased a used SSE. The plane is in pretty nice shape, but I don't have a manual and could use advice from someone that might have a SSE.

First - what are the recommended throws for low and high rates. My son and I are definitely going to start on the low rates!

2nd - I have an O.S. .46fx that I was hoping to use on this plane. However, the current location of the mount means that I will need to carve away quite a chunk of the cheek for the needle valve and muffler to pass through. Anyone know the recommended mount location so I can double check it? Also, did you have to carve out the cheeks if you have an O.S.?

Low rates-
Elevator-1 1/4" up -- 1 1/4 down
Alerons--1"up----1"down
Rudder--1 7/8"left 1 7/8" right

High rates
Elevator--2" up--2" down
Alerons--2" up--2" down
Rudder---2 1/4 left--2 1/4 right

It is not uncommon to have to trim the fuse. to get clearence.

I started with a ST 51 in mine. I also had to trim the fuse for muffler clearance. If I could give a little advice. I installed my engine last. There is a limited space for the batt&RX in this plane. So I mounted it first. Then when everything else was installed. I put the SE on the CG machine without the engine. Then I set the engine on the bottom of the mount. This way I could slide it back and forth to get the CG right. It ended up with the engine forward on the mount. It looked fine and gave me the correct CG with no lead. If I had mounted the engine in the recommended place it would have needed lead in the tail.

Almost forgot. Make sure you have the spinner,prop, and muffler on the engine when you balance the plane.
