You can also find cheap transmitters that work with FMS on ebay. Just search for FMS. Not the best program, but it's fun to knock around a bit.

The price is right and you find tons of different models that were made by FMS users to match actual planes that they own. I downloaded one for the Hobbico Brightstar and the look and flying traits are right on. :D

Re: ""one mistake and your bringing your plane home n peices" statement is getting me more interested in planes... "< this can be true if you are flying very low, say 10 feet over the runway inverted and then pull on the elevator stick instead of pushing on it to climb out. Normally as long as you have altitude, you can realize that you made a mistake and correct it before things get worse. Extra altitude gives you time to react. Crashes usually occour when you run out of altitude, and ideas at the same time! :D

I saw that the simulator cords are running about $30. Are there any simple adapters for one end of a trainer cord to USB?

No, too much electronics involved in changing the PPM signal to a serial USB signal.

The two are totally different.

At the very least some sort of pic type interface is required...

The PPM to regular serial only works practically because of a fluke in that you can use software to make the PC understand the pulses by directly controlling the Serial Interface Controller.

With USB you don't have this fine a level of control over things.
