What are some small glow trainers?

Hello!

I am living in an apartment (going to school) now and I just got married, so I've got room for my planes, but my wife won't let me (I've not even asked... I know better... lol). I've got two planes, but I was wondering about a smaller glow plane. I am thinking about doing electric, but I've already got all of the stuff I need for glow, so I was thinking maybe a small glow plane would be the way to go. Any reccomendations? I'm looking for something around 30 to 40 inches I think... if not smaller. I'll probably just have to go electric (which is better in a several ways, anyway), but thought I'd see what you guys thought. Thanks!

Brandon

I've seen the Sig Kadet EP42 ARF converted to .15 powered glow power. Looked like a nice setup.

Well this one is 38.5" and it is a 40 size so you will be able to recycle your servos and maybe an engine too. Plus it looks good. It is a kit so I don't know if you would be interested in it or not. Right now it is out of stock, but it is usually available.

Did I miss something? The subject line does say trainers, doesn't it? ;)

Sig has some interesting planes listed under the Herr name. Go to their web site http://sigmfg.com and click on Aircraft-> Aircraft - R/C Kits and then pick trainers.

Ask anyway, you may not get the answer you expect. After 22 years of mariage I have found that women are unpredictable so don't even try.

You just got married and she won't let you have airplanes. Did you date and talk about interests and hobbies or did you just say I DO???:D Get a Carl Goldberg Freedom 20. It's bigger than what you want but then you will have a very nice small trainer, with a 2-stroke .25 engine and it's only got a 55" wingspan. Fits in your trunk. Looks like a Cessna 152.

Good Luck with the Mrs.,

Hop on over to the 1/2a forum. We have lots of ideas to pass on about smaller glow planes. Granted, we fly with different engines, not somethign a .40 would be comfortable on.

Hey all... thanks for the replies.

After evaluating, I think I'm just going to have to go with electric or maybe, possibly talk her into letting me bring one of my .40's. We'll see. She wouldn't refuse to refuse, we really don't have a whole lot of room (2 bedroom apartment with 3 people... me, her, and a friend of ours who is staying with us a bit while going to beauty school and, in the process, helping us pay bills... hehe). I may see if I can talk her into letting me put two shelves (or just little brackets...) to hang my Tower Trainer on above my workbench. :) Or I may go with an EStarter. We'll see. :)

Thanks again for the replies, guys!

Look at some of the planes from Herr Engineering. They are distributed by Sig. I tihnk they have a 1/2A trainer. I've had both their Little Extra and 1/2A Mustang with Norvel .074's. They were as fun as a .40 sized plane.

When building 1/2 A size planes, electric power really starts making a lot of sense, not just for practicallity but also from a pure performance viewpoint. You replace the throttle servo, fuel tank, and reciever battery with a ESC/BEC combo and a li-po battery. A TP 900 mAh 3-s lipo weighs about the same as a 250 mAh 4.8 volt nicad reciever battery BTW. (about 60 grams) With lipos and brushless motors, you can actually build a lighter and more powerful RC plane than is possible with glow in this size range, not to mention that it always starts. Electric power has breathed new life into small model airplanes.
You have to be a real glow fanatic to power these planes with glow engines, but then again, this is a hobby so do what you want. There will always be people that use 1/2a engines for the same reason that some model railroad buffs use actual steam powered locomotives.

ERRRRR yes the subject is .... trainer, but he already has two planes so I thought that he might be ..... I digress, my bad, I guess the little Gee Bee bipe is something I have been thinking about for myself and when I saw the wing span requirements he had it immediately came to mind.
If he really is still in the trainer mode then it is probably not a good choice.
But just think, he would get to build a kit and have a cool looking plane and get to keep his servos and engine from one of the other planes oops there I go again digressing
:D

I've been tjinking about some sort of electric to just take over to the park rather than the regular flying field. I guess I'm just an engine fanatic though; especially small model engines. The smell of castor oil & nitromethane makes me happy somehow.

A Sig LT 25 with a nice bb 25-32 size engine would be nice.......flatten the wing out somewhat.
