Introductions, and a quick question...
 

Hi all...

I've just become a member of this rather nice community and while I'd be confident enough to say I'm no longer a begginer, I am still on the learning curve. Anyway, Hello!

Ok. Onto my question...

I have now built 2 models (and I have other smaller RTF models), a Flair Piper Cub as my first trainer model, and a Spitfire which came as a magazine subscription (you may have seen the controversy caused by the Deagostini magazine when it released it!). I'm under no illusions, and I'll not be flying her for some time, but it was fun to build and looks great... and gives me a goal to aim for. I love building... I have built loads of freeflight offerings, and I think my building skills are quite reasonable.

With Christmas fast approaching, I have turned my gaze to buying another model... And I have 2 in mind but can only get one. Which would you guys recomend (and bear in mind, I am a complete scale freak!)?

1. Airsail Chipmunk (RAF) - I actually flew one for real some years back and have had a thing for anything dehaviland since...

2. Airsail Tomahawk - Looks fantastic and has a great sense of scale...

Hello; Welcome; I enjoy building too, but I want whatever I build to fly. My neighbour has an unflyable Airsil Beaver, beautiful build, but it won't fly. Another flyer built an Airsail Auster AOP, another beautiful build, but it couldn't be made to fly either. Both these planes were very well built by experienced builders, but both became statec planes rather then re-engineer them. I have never seen an Airsail Chipmunk, but I have been flying my Goldberg Chipmunk for 3 years, and it is a wonderful plane, and excellent flyer. I'm not saying that you won't be able to fly the chippy, someone must be buying and flying these Airsail kits. I know that some people buy kits just to build with no intention of ever flying them. Airsail kits are great for these people.

Of course your experience may differ.

Welcome to RCU Rob. The Airsail Tomahawk is a more basic airplane. The Chipmunk has more aerobatic capabilities, but can also be a very docil flier. I would say that depending on your experience, either would be a good choice. I know that's not much help, but ultimately, you are the one who knows the level at which you are able to fly.

Thanks for the info guys[8D]... I have to admit, I've heard mixed reviews about the Airsail kits, but most seem to lean toward the (very) positive...

As far as flying ability goes, by the time I have my next model (whatever it ends up being) built, I'm sure I'll be able and ready to try out some basic aeros... It will be good practice and training for my Spitfire. I guess with that in mind I'd be better with the Chippy. of cousre as a scale nut, I'm very impressed with the tomahawk... Decisions Decisions[&:]! If it were up to me, I'd end up getting both! Maybe I should leave it to the other half... that way I can always blame her if I end up wanting the other one!

Anybody out there got any advice about which of the two Airasils I've mentioned is the easier kit to build (all sources point to the chippy so far)?

Oh... yeah... Before I forget... Nice chippy you've got there Donkey Doctor... I may have to check that one out...
