Prop spinning wrong way!!!! HELP!

OK, so this is my second request for help today - sorry in advance.

I've just put together my Kyosho Yak-54 Epp with 420 Brushless Motor. I've just attached the prop and the thing spins the wrong way!! I've turned it round naturally - still going the wrong way!!

Am I missing something? Have I put it together incorrectly?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Well this is the Glow Planes forum.... so it really belongs elsewhere, but here goes.

You are using a brushless motor that has three wires coming from the motor to the ESC.

Reverse any two of those three wires to reverse the direction of the motor.

That's it.

Thanks very much opjose. Sorry my question was in the wrong place.

I was told at the shop to ensure the colours match up, but I'll give it a go. Just don't want to have to fork out for another speed controller.

Here goes anyway...

Actually this is the "Beginners" forum and we don't distinguish between Nitro and electric. That being said there are other forums where electric is better spoken.

If you have any "Beginners" questions feel free to bring them up. Electric questions will be better served in one of the sub-forums found here.

Opjose is right, reverse any 2 wires to change direction of the motor.

switch the black and red wires around to reverse the polarity and run the motor the other way.

forgive me if this melts your ESC, im used to tinkering with Duracells and little 6v motors

Depends upon WHICH red and black wires you are talking about.

If you switch the battery feed wires, then the ESC will quickly fry.

If you switch any two of the three motor wires, the motor will reverse.

wait, ANY 2?... you sure?

switching + and - will make it run reverse, correct? then whats the other wire do?

Wild Foamy, on our electric motors there are 3 wires. Please be careful with some of your statements

roamingrichy,

These three are connected directly to the ESC. The color coding on these three wire means absolutely nothing. On the three I own they are all black on the motor and red/white/yellow on the ESC.

The other problem could be having the channel reversed in the radio. Switching the prop around will not cure this particular problem at all

My I suggest either the electric forums for more help than you could ever want or RCU's sister site:

http://www.wattflyer.com

This is is all about electric flight with tons of great info

RE: Prop spinning wrong way!!!! HELP!

Actually flipping the prop over in many cases is detrimental depending upon the prop. On glow motor props there is an airfoil to the prop and flipping it over destroys that airfoil efficiency. I believe many electric props are of simpler design but I could be wrong in this particular case. At any rate it will not change direction of rotation or thrust.

Thanks to all of you for responding. I did indeed flip the wires over and it's now spinning the way it should.

Apologies again for posting in the wrong forum section. Won't happen again.

Appreciate the feedback chaps (and any chappettes among us).

Richard

You are a beginner so you were in the correct forum. Don't worry about it.

Thanks Bruce. There seem to be conflicting thoughts on right and wrong here.

Being a "beginner" surely means you're entitled to a few mistakes.

Cheers

I'd agree with the statement that you are a beginner and that is what this forum is for. I was only suggesting Wattflyer and the electric forums as though are bound to be able to give you much more detailed info that what you may get here.

By all means continue to post your questions in here but those other locations are chock full of great electric info so be sure to check those out as well.

Next time try turning it upside down. :D

We are using brushless motors.

Three wires are utilized on brushless motors, to control different sets of magnets.

Don't think of this as + and -, rather think of these wires as determining the phase relationship of the electrical pulses.

Change any two wires and you change the way the ESC "pulls" the magnets around the central core.

It's the difference between a simple DC motor and a 3 phase AC motor.
